I'm looking to do a points redemption next year, and currently deciding between the two.

I know taxes are higher in EY but I can live with that.

Which has the better J product? I think SQ is the 777s ex bne, whereas EY might be A380?

Also, VA WP so are the differences in lounges worth it?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Whilst I do like EY's J - I recently took SQ's refurbished 777 in J from SIN to SYD and I actually preferred that product - though it does have a slightly unusual diagonal sleeping position in the seat. At least with EY you're guaranteed 787 then A380 which are both great products

On this route EY would be my choice. Their B787 / A380 J hard products are superior to SQ B777 / A380.

Agree with the EY choice. Of the 4 SQ daily flights from BNE 2 are A330 and their J product is very ordinary compared to EY 787

I'm a fan of the Silverkris lounges in SIN (which you would get access to as a J passenger, although not due to Velocity status). However, in AUH you will get access to the EY F Lounge (due to VA WP status), which is far superior. The SQ lounge in LHR is nice, but nothing to write home about. I honestly can't remember what the EY lounge in LHR is like, although I have been there - and I have never felt let down by an EY operated lounge (different story where they use partner lounges). No idea about lounges in BNE.

I will be in the same boat very soon. Whilst I would prefer to fly EY, the significant additional cash outlay will drive me to SQ. The money saved can be put to better use in Europe.

Faced the same dilemma recently, but while I think the EY J product on the 787 is better than SQ's (especially on the A330 you might get from BNE), the difference in taxes for two people was almost $1000 one way. No thanks.

The EY taxes suck but I could only find wait-listed flights with SQ but EY flights easily available.

Would ex-MEL-HKG-LHR be an option for a points redemption? (MEL - HKG with VA and HKG - LHR on VS)

It could be an option. Is the product better? I'd assume it's the 777 "the business" to HKG, what's VS like?

Would the benefit over EY be the taxes?

I'm also planning a J trip to EU next year. While I assume MEL-HKG-LHR with VA/VS is an option in theory, when I search for MEL-LHR on the Velocity website, this route doesn't show up. And I don't mean there are no seats available, I mean it's not even listed as an option (whereas various other routes are listed, even though there are no seats available).

VS has a herringbone product, so not overly great if traveling with someone, although there is the bar to catch up at. Also, unfortunately the fantastic VS lounge at HKG is no longer.

It is The Business but it's on an A330 not the 77W, though no difference in hard product (though no bar on the A330). VS is reverse herringbone. Not great but it's on the 789 so at least it's the newer version.

VS is herringbone, VA is reverse herringbone.

What's the lounges and lounge access like in SQ and AUH when travelling on business reward?

I'm currently WP, but might drop back to SG before we travel.

But does a business ticket get you the same access as WP? Or are there some WP only premium lounges
