We finally catch up with the Joneses when it comes to having an A380 on a regular service with the first one arriving this morning, should be interesting to see how AKL handles the influx of another A380 making three arrivals in thirty minutes.

The same applies to departures...the EK lounge is quite crowded at about 4 PM

Thanks I`m in West End, thought I saw a larger than normal aircraft heading towards the airfield, should have paid more attention!

Thats was not the EK bird, she came in over Caboolture and Redcliffe.

Congrats to BNE, now its time for PER to get its act together! BNE now joins the A380 Airport club, the 4th in the Pacific region.

SYD: QF [HKG, LAX, DXB/LHR] SQ [SIN] EK [AKL, DXB] CZ [CAN]* EY [AUH]*
MEL: QF [LAX, DXB/LHR] SQ [SIN] EK [AKL, DXB] EY [AUH]*
BNE: EK [AKL, DXB]

I have no idea why it took us so long - I thought we were A380 ready for a long time. Just seemed EK decided to upgauge just then. Of course, we aren't praying QF send one here. Come to think of it, there are still a handful of airlines who service BNE who own A380s; hey, what have they against us? ;)

I'll excuse myself now... got a whole lot of laughing to do.... :D

Yes PER doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get things going, even with EK sending rush money in.

MEL: QF [LAX, DXB/LHR] SQ [SIN] EK [AKL, DXB] EY [AUH]*
BNE: EK [AKL, DXB]

I didn't know EY have A380s....

SYD should also have MH to KUL but they got stiffed.

Yes, its quite laughable about the PER situation! Quite embarrassing really for PER residents

EY Has announced MEL & SYD (aswell as LHR & JFK) as their A380 destinations for their 10 A380's arriving next year. And as for MH, if the bi-lateral agreements didn't get in the way both MEL & SYD would have been A380 destinations for MH from NOV12 and MAR13 respectively, but both MEL & SYD will get upped to x3 Daily in November so at least MH increased capacity as they have no spare A380's left.

I recall reading ages ago that BNE was actually the first Australian airport to be "A380 ready" in terms of runway/tarmac/ramp ops.

Of course, the EK flight today is far from the first A380 to land here; there have been quite a few QF A380 diversions. It is though the first scheduled daily service.

Wasn't that MEL?

John Holland

MEL has largely been either keeping up or ahead on developments...

Any pics and did it get a bath on arrival?

Quite a few linked to by BNE on twitter, ie Canvaswings flickr set: Welcome to Flickr!

@PeterDoherty7 , our local Channel 7 chopper guy got a few shots. Many of the spotters were unhappy JQ photobombed the actual landing from the spotting area, but that was just bad luck/timing.

BNE was the first airport to actually have an A380 land, Nov 11 2005 being the date C/N001 popped in for taxi tests and putting on some QF makeup.

VA361 BNE/TSV was at the holding point so pax would have had a good view of the EK A380 out the left hand side of the plane as their a/c was next in line for take off on RW19 followed closely by QF605 BNE/MEL, VA908 BNE/SYD & those onboard JQ926 BNE/CNS on the right hand side of the plane would have had a great view.

EK have released a nice mostly coughpit based video.
