I have noticed Qantas have just started asking for Bluetooth headsets to be turned off during takeoff and landing.

Does anyone know why this is occurring? Is there new legislation or Qantas being over cautious?

Always been this way. They are a transmitter and should be off.

Just more and more people getting BT headsets

So how would you account for the fact that they let people use QF in-flight WiFi (where fitted) from gate-to-gate, and the Q-Streaming IFE - over WiFi - on other flights? Bluetooth and WiFi are both 2.4GHz radio signals. Bluetooth much lower power/range through.

I was on an Air Canada Dash 8 from Edmonton to Yellowknife and used my bluetooth headphones the entire flight gate to gate.
Leaving Yellowknife to Calgary on an AC Dash 8, was told that I couldn't use bluetooth headphones at all during any stage of the flight.
Was weird.

SQ asked us to remove our NC headsets (non Bluetooth), saying we wouldn't be able to hear instructions in an emergency.
I wish they would simply state this "Do not use XYZ during takeoff and landings to be able to hear for instructions in an emergency" otherwise its simply gets a response of "meh" by the majority of the DYKWIA crew.
