Hi All

Looking to go back to the UK for 2 weeks in May at somepoint, as its only a short trip I want to fly Biz class, so I can hit the ground running. Most fares e Syd are around the 6-8k mark.

I notice that Asiana have a biz fare for about $5.8k from Syd including a night in Korea, any other suggestions? I know sometimes Cathay do a decent fare from HK to LHR as well.

I currently hold a KF, however have no status what so ever nor one world.

Also while I am here I dont have a credit cards what so ever, I am currently on a 457 does anyone have any suggestions for what card I could get. I make trips to the UK at least once every 2 years if not once a year and then travel outside of that for holiday etc. Ideally I would like to use points to obtain upgrades as opposed to pay for flights outright.

Any suggestions?

Personally i'd fly JAL, great service an at $5468 ++ taxes, its a good fare.

It'll also give you enough Status Credits for Gold (SG) with Qantas FF.

Hey Travel Guru.

Are the JAL flights SYD - LHR 2 or 3 class? Also what are the J seats like?

I also may have to do a quick UK trip soon.

Thanks,

Shaun

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If going to be returning to UK within a year , I would really consider looking at getting a oneway trip to UK and then buy r/ts from Europe to Australia and you would have good savings on fares for premium travel

JL business class seats can be a mixture depending on the aircraft. Generally they have the lie-flats (flat but angled to the floor in the same way as Qantas 747/A330 seats and AAmerican Airlines etc).

But they also have regular biz class seats at a 50' pitch like the old ones on Qantas used to be. I'm not sure which ones they fly out of Sydney - i would suspect the new ones if they also offer premium economy.

You might want to consider premium economy on JL - I read somewhere is was about $2600 ex SYD to Europe.

Otherwise there are cheaper ways. As Dave suggested, but a one way cheapie to Europe and buy biz class returns from there (about GBP2500 should be on the mark - but you'd have to return in 12 months).

You can also fly Air Asia X in their new XL seats which are angled lie flats (but no service) - for under 3000 return I believe. You could use Air Asia as the one way cheapie to get to london to buy your biz returns.

Or there was the other post on AFF buying a cheap economy ticket to Singapore and combining it with an Emirates biz class ex SIN to give an overall total of about AUD3800 (economy to singapore and v.v. and biz SIN to Europe and v.v)

Hey Shaun,

It's excellent, I really enjoyed the service and the seats are good, same as what you'd see on the QF 747's, MH, TG etc with 170 degree recline.

Ex Sydney theyre operating a 3 class service (J, Y+ and Y), always go ex Sydney on JAL as theyre operating the newer product, ex BNE they did have new product but reverted back to a 767 with old skyluxe seats about 9 months ago.

I wouldnt hesitate in flying them again, and at 5k for Europe return with enough SC's to hit Gold, its great.
I fly alot of different carriers because I use AD's on airlines J product so dont tend to build up status easily, but its handy having the SG as a side benefit of flying JL.
