I've searched but can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. Happy to be directed to an appropriate thread if there is one. I'm trying to establish the best way to travel from Sydney to Ushuaia return. I'm willing to pay cash and would like to travel J for as much of the trip as I can. Would prefer One World but it's not a deal breaker.

I travelled there a couple a years ago for Antarctic cruise. I had friends in LA so did Syd-lax on Qantas ff points J class. Then I booked AA through Qantas with points lax-eze in J. Had a connection in EZE after a few hours layover for USH. You could, also, fly direct to SCQ with Qantas/LAN then to EZE or AEP. Aerolineas fly to BA direct from Syd I think. Bottom line is there is no direct to flight to USH.

AR stopped flying this route last year.

When are you travelling FrustratedQP? If it's after Dec 2015, Air NZ will start flying to EZE with connections on the AR network, which will be the most seamless way of getting down to Ushuaia...SYD-AKL-EZE-USH.

Thanks everyone. Not sure when I am going, just looking at all the options for an Antarctic Cruise. I want to fly the most comfortable way possible.

you could use kayak.com and sort your results by the shortest travel time

Quickest way will be via Santiago and Buenos Aries and it is also the was the fares are designed for Qantas/LAN. Try to avoid Aerolineas if you can as they have a tendency to not run to schedule!

What cruise company are you looking at? I recently returned from a Silversea Antarctic cruise where they include the cost of the charter flight from BA ( AEP airport) to USH. I know one or 2 other operators also offer a charter flight included in the package.

I used points on QF to travel SYD SCL AEP on QF/LA

I believe the Antarctic cruise season is Dec-March. The Air NZ fares go on sale from late March.

Whilst I agree AR weren't great keeping to schedule for their international services, their intra-South America ones are fine.
