Hi guys,

I'm flying a lot more with DJ now - and am getting over QFF's sloppy service - so am now looking at adding another FF CC to my wallet.
I've been using only the ANZ FF for some time without hassle (enjoy Amex's earn rate), but sense it's time to direct most of my cash into velocity points.

I've had a look on their website, and nothing stands out.
I'm fairly greedy/ a cheapskate when it comes to CCs, so am chasing:
- no/low annual fee promotion
- and/or a lot of bonus points.

The Virgin Flyer CC looks OK, but no bonus earn rate for booking DJ flights is a bit annoying - and I don't know when I'd use the free flights
Citibank Aus' Platinum CC seems decent value. 60,000 is a good number, even if it is citibank.

Thoughts? Is there a golden goose out there I'm missing? Or is DJ likely to have a decent promotion over the next few months?

Cheers
bc

Probably a Citi card as Visa is taken readily. The Amex Velocity Platinum is working nicely.

I would suggest the platinum edge Amex. It does have $150 annual fee but that is offset by the free DJ flight.

Earn rates are pretty good and pretty sure you can transfer reward points to velocity.

It really depends on how much you can put through a CC that will determine the card for you.
Citi is or can be a bit painful to get enrolled properly whereas Amex card enrolment can be quite easy.
Citi is a Visa and typically the more you pay annually the better the card rate.....but not always as Citi run promos and starting points can be a very nice way to say hello. Getting 60,000 points may be a great starter for you but the fee is charged annually...it leads to card churning at the end of year one in some cases.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Wow. This does seem like a pretty good deal. Especially given the free return flight.
From my understand these AMEX points would fall under Velocity's current 20% transfer bonus points offer, yeah?

Only downer is of course I wouldn't have the 15,000 points sorted in time.
1) Is this a fairly regular DJ promotion?
2) If so, can I leave my AMEX Membership Rewards points sitting there for months/years before transferring them over to velocity?

Thanks guys.

And cove,
It varies wildly, but generally somewhere between $1000-$2000.
And while card churning seems annoying (and a danger given some companies will reject you for a CC if you've got too many on the run). Surely it's worth it for that many points (roughly 3 return trips SYD-BNE by my count)?

  1. It seems to be about once per year. Last year was 25% bonus.
  2. Yes, you just have to take pot luck on a bonus falling due when you want to transfer.
