Hi fellow travellers

I have been searching options for a self study & 'find myself' discovery journey then hopefully back into the workforce after a pretty rough last 5 years thanks to a bullying employer that left me lost, unemployed for 6 mths, cost me my partner & friends along the way... but I've researched to the point my brain has gone to mush so I thought I'd call on the community to help find the best flight options

BTW why do I mention this, because bullying is not OK and admitting it happened is part of the healing as is the journey I'm planning

ANYHOOOO :)

I have around 160000 QFF Silver status and looking at the following for 1 person

SYD-HKT any day within the next week then HKT-ATH around the 6 APR followed by CDG-HKT end of April then HKT-SYD mid to late May

OR

SYD-ATH any day within the next week then CDG-HKT towards end of April then HKT-SYD mid to late May.

My plan was to make best use of existing points utilising J wherever possible as a treat or if fares are good enough or cheaper than the charges to use points then use either of the above options as a points earner for another day but I just can't afford anything better than economy right now, even the charges on using points are scary.. for example when I searched LGW-HKT they were around 500 pounds

CDG felt best placed but is optional and it could just as easily be London/Frankfurt/Milan etc

Thanks in advance

I think the best thing for you to do would be to book a paid return economy ticket from Sydney to coughet on Jetstar. From Thailand, you could book a J points redemption to Athens, returning from Paris back to coughet to pick up your Jetstar return leg.

I can see a QR J award from HKT to ATH via DOH on 9 April for 78,000 QFF points plus around $240 in taxes.
Returning from CDG to HKT in J, you have a choice of many dates in May, flying either QR via DOH or EK via DXB. Emirates is 84,000 points plus around $615 in taxes. Qatar is 92,000 points plus ~$315 in taxes. Depending on your exact points balance, either could be possible but Qatar is clearly preferable for the lower taxes (and IMHO better product). If you don't have enough points for that, you could try departing from Vienna instead. This prices at a lower rate of 72,000 points on Emirates or 78,000 on Qatar to coughet.

To get to coughet, a Jetstar fare is available on tomorrow's JQ27 flight for $429 (not including baggage etc.). Most other dates after Saturday 2 April are under $500. Return flights are available mid-May for $229.

By the way, are you aware that you have enough points to fly around the world in economy - would that interest you? (That's 140K plus taxes.)

Hi Mattg,

Thanks for the reply, let me have a play with those and I'll come back to you.

As for the around the world option, no I wasnt. I'll be checking that too:)

I've never flown Qatar but I've always been an Emirates fan after a Europe trip in 2010. Keen to look at all options to make this the trip I need

Hi all & MattG

Well 2 nights ago around 1am I found just what I was looking for flying same day.... well it excited me LOL but I couldn't the same deal on any other date.
Business to Melbourne then First on Emirates A380 to Dubai and about to board economy in Dubai to Athens.

Thanks Mattg for your suggestions
