I'm flying CX J on a TPE-HKG-MEL run soon and was wondering which lounge is best. According to the oneworld website I have a choice between the CX J lounge in Terminal 1, 4/F or the JAL Sakura Lounge in Terminal 2 on 3/F. There is also an 'Evergreen' lounge but it isnt clear who runs that, but I won't be eligible as not travelling in F.

Does anyone have experience on the TPE lounges and any recommendations?

The CX lounge is your best bet, and the only lounge on offer in the departing terminal.

CX the only choice.
Note the lounge can presently only be accessed by lift (off a construction corridor) due to all the renovation going on at TPE T1 (the checkin areas now look quite good)

Also note that TPE is very cheap for alcohol, far better than MEL, and even cheaper than HKG.
Buy dutyfree inbound to TPE, then pack it in checked luggage for the TPE-HKG-MEL leg.

The Evergreen lounge is the EVA Air's lounge. I would expect you wouldn't get access to that unless you are flying with them. They are set to join star alliance next year.

The Cathay business lounge is pretty good. It has a noodle bar which is pretty good. It has a funny little first lounge at the end as well.

Thanks for the alcohol tip! Is there only one place to buy at TPE before clearing customs or is there a particular shop I should try? Any recommendations on what is particularly good value there? Especially interested in champagne and red, but anything will do - looks like a good place to load up on duty free. What about perfumes? Electronics?

It would be a long walk between terminal 1 and terminal 2.

I was in the CX Business Lounge this morning for a few minutes. The lounge is OK but take note the First Class Lounge is through the Business Class louunge and not really that much better or in the theory a little quieter unless you get some jerk who thinks his phone calls are everyones business.

Disappointed that only 2 beers on offer. Budweiser and Tsingtao? Had a Budweiser at 6:00am.

As for the lift only access I was waiting at the lift this morning about 1 yard back from doors. When this animal decided to come and stand in front of me. How do people do this? Cannot possibly have any brain. Anyway about 6-7 people came out of lift and when they went past I pushed him out of the way to get in. Completely ignorant and disrespectful of anyone around them....

There was a decent Taiwan beer there a few days ago. Taiwan Gold? Quite drinkable

If you're flying KA then you will depart from terminal 2, and therefore use the EVA Air J lounge. I used it on this trip and it was fine.
