Hi all

I'm likely flying to Copenhagen next April with the following routing:

BNE-SIN (QF economy)
SIN-DOH (QR business)
DOH-CPH (QR business)
and return.

The BNE-SIN sector would be ticketed separately from the other components. I'll also be doing a bit of internal economy class travel in Europe, probably from CPH-LCA, LCA-LHR/LGW and LHR/LGW - CPH. BA offers reasonable fares for the legs involving LCA.

I'm trying to establish which FF program is likely to bring me OW Sapphire most efficiently. Qantas gives a terrible points earn rate on QR (0.75 points per mile in business, compared to QR's own earn rate of 3.5 points per mile), so I'm reluctant to credit the QR sectors to QF. Even if I did, I'd end up about half way between QF Silver and Gold by the end of the trip.

Based on QR's Privilege Club calculator, I'll get almost (but not quite) to OW Sapphire with my QR sectors alone.

I'm currently QF Bronze with 20 status credits. My FF year runs from 1 Sep to 31 August. I'll complete all the above travel within my current FF year. I'm not enrolled in any other FF programs.

I was hoping someone on here could offer some insight into which FF program will enable the most efficient status earnings (with point earnings being a slightly secondary concern) from my journey.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Cheers

Geoff.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm sure wiser heads than I would correct me but, for status credits earn, all one world partners are the same, regardless of the FF program your crediting to (maybe with the exception of discount economy). It's the points acquired that varies.

Thanks Kelvedon.

As I understand it, each airline awards status credits on the basis of their own 'earning table'. For instance, BA gives 35 status credits (or tier credits as they call them) for a discount economy one-way trip from BNE-SIN, while QF gives 30.

Similarly, each OW carrier seems to have a different threshold for reaching OW Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. For example, you reach OW Sapphire with BA after earning 600 tier credits while you need 700 QF status credits to reach the same level.

I am hoping for advice as to which of the 13 OW carriers is likely to offer me a 'sweet spot' with status earnings for my proposed itinerary.

I've done a bit more research in the meantime and it looks like BA would be a good option in terms of achieving OW Sapphire. The trip noted above would get me just over the required 600 tier credits. It also offers a better points earn (1.25 points per mile on business class sectors with QR) than QF (0.75 points per mile).

Hope this clarifies my request.

Thanks again.

Thanks Geoffb78, I didn't know that the tier level qualification varied between OW program's. I for one am happy Qatar have joined the alliance. They have some great J fare specials, Copenhagen, Vienna and Stockholm ex SIN or DPS especially, as I'm sure you've discovered.
Enjoy the 5 stars!

For earning status BA tier credits do not equal QF status credit do not equal AA EQM/EQP etc
Just as 1 BA point does not equal 1 QF point does not equal 1 AA mile

For OW carrier's QF is on the low end of requirements (best) for getting / maintaining status with business & first class flights.

You just need to put a the distance's in an excel spreadsheet and calculate. Include AA in you calculations
For the BNE-SIN QF economy sector you need to know the exact fare bucket. It will not be full Y

After this you need to see what you get from the status & the QR miles, QF points, AA miles etc in that particular program. They are not the same.

And check the expiry rules very carefully: they are not the same.

Frequent Flyer Programs (FFP) are not equal.
1 (one) mile/km/point of FFP’s are not equal (just like currencies)
Each airline FFP has different rules for earning and retaining status.
Each airline FFP has different rules for earning miles/km/points/avios.
Each airline FFP has different rules to stop miles/km/points/avios from expiring.
Each airline FFP has different rules for using (burning) those miles/km/points/avios for rewards and different copay $$ fees.
Each airline FFP has different rules for upgrades & different copay $$ fees.
Each airline FFP has different rules for lounge access (own & other airlines)

Award flights with your airline, other OneWorld airlines and your airlines non-alliance FFP partners are subject to availability & the rules of your airlines FFP.
OneWorld airline FFP's do not have the same non-alliance airline partners.

Some low cost fares can earn nil miles/points/avios in your FFP, especially if not flown on your own airline
