Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

5 Closure letters came today for the 5 family members registered at my postal address only one account had 2 cards. Opened at various times over the last 18 months.
Anyone had any luck getting theirs re-instated?
Dated 22nd August, Closure happening 5th September.

2 single card accounts. 1 received the letter today. I guess Monday's mail will have the other. It would appear they are putting the broom through the lot of the 1c x 50 accounts.
There would be a lot of flights that could be attributed to BankWest accounts. I'm not sure who feels the pain the most. BankWest, Telstra or Qantas. I guess we just be thankful for what we got and move on to the next scheme with a beautiful loophole. I hope some of you manage to dodge the letters.

I wonder if there is any benefit in voluntarily cancelling the account before the "scheduled" date, so it isn't a bank-initiated cancellation. Waiting a month then re-opening a new account?

Pretty sure it's not Telstra or Qantas. Both reported record profits

Judging by the length of this thread and the fact that BW effectively buy the points, its definitely BW loosing out here (maybe costing them $25-$50 a card per month), I don't think Telstra would care too much.

So completely true. It's just time wasting when people post junk into this thread. I love the hilarity that ensure when those new to the game get shut down for the first time, like it is some mortal offence that came out of the blue.

Have fun, earn points, exploit the loop holes then suck it up when you get blown and move on.
Personally I think if you can't handle an opportunity closing down without getting upset you are just setting yourself up for much unhappiness and really shouldn't be in the game. That is the game, I've probably seen hundreds of opportunities open up, you hopefully get a chance to use them (and no doubt in many cases we are "abusing" them - at least in the eye of the promoter), and then are shut down. Usually much, much faster than this one.

If you cant build a bridge and get over it, you're in the wrong game because that is what "normal" look like.

My account has been closed as well. Ah well, I knew it couldn't last forever. Still, can't complain. Final tally is well over 300,000 points. Thanks Bankwest, it's been fun, lets do it again some time.
Great to see someone posting the "its been good while it lasted" message!

Got the letter today. One account, 50x1c tx per day. It's kind of like getting out of the premium cabin and just standing around with everyone else waiting for the bags - part of the pack once again.

With, of course, the pleasant knowledge that you gained points from the trip.

A nice trip, but it's over. Thanks, everyone, for the help.

While I don't think you are going to get anywhere with complaining about this am interested to hear whether actually making a complaint to their internal dispute resolution team (as above) has actually slowed the process of finally closing the account down.

It was good while it lasted, thanks for the opportunity Bankwest.

The three accounts that I've been using (all single card) received letters today dated 22nd August due to close on the 5th.

Has anyone else been paid interest on the day your account was closed, only to have it withdrawn, with a description of "CLOSING ENTRY"? Will my partner & I be receiving a cheque in the mail for 7¢ and 6¢ respectively?

Both my partner & I emailed them on the night before the closure. It didn't stop the closure. In fact, they haven't even replied to either of us, yet!

Got the account closure letter today. Only ever had one card and for most of this year only doing around 10 transactions a day on an Optus account. Last year was able to do 50 transactions a day for a few months on a Click energy account until Click changed it's payment gateway. Not sure how many points I made in total, but it wasn't a huge amount. Perhaps 50,000. No complaints at all, it was good while it lasted. I imagine BankWest got tired of companies complaining about the product and all the low value transactions companies were processing that perhaps cost them more than the amount being paid.

I don't think that it's fair to say that someone with 2 cards is an abuser. There is nothing in the T&Cs that indicate that you can't have 2 cards. More than one account is against the terms not more than one card as far as I can see.

22 August send from wa
5 September close and hopeful points post

I think my sister n her husband receiced in the same batch . Date sent 22 Aug close date 5 Sep . 2 account on the same address 1 card per account only . Interesting it come with hand writing signature different to the letter i received .

Quite possible. If so, why didn't BW just make a rule that you won't earn any points unless the transaction amount was above, say, $1, or that repeated payments of the same or similar amounts, on the same day, to the same business, would result in the loss of points for those transactions'.

Following today's news, of single card holders getting the closure letter, I now wonder how many (BW Qantas Transaction) accounts will actually be left open, after BW finish their current purge of undesirable account holders?

... 2 accounts still yet to receive a letter - one of which is a 2 card account (and was the earliest opened)

Account closed letter received before a single point has made it's way to my Qantas account. I snoozed and I lost. =)

Got letters for me and my wife. I have 2 cards, wife has one. Both started about 2 months ago.

WTF! BW appear to have no rhyme and reason to the order of the closures. Are they doing them by postcode?

Curiously, you can still apply to open this type of account. The letter says nothing about reapplying. I wonder if anyone's game to try straight away? Though, I wouldn't bother if it's only for paying bills!

The t&c say you're ineligible for a new account if you have had an account within the last 30 days

Got the dreaded letters for my wife and 2 other family member accounts. Oddly didn't receive a letter for my account which would have racked up the most points out of all the accounts.
