Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

They are allowed to close anyone's account at any time for any reason as far as I know. So not sure why people are debating whether he deserves a warning or not. They have decided they don't want his business because of his usage of the card and closed his account accordingly.

That said, I'm not what this means for the rest of us who are making Telstra/Optus payments. Do they want us all gone or is it just people clogging up Coles/wollies machines for hours a day? It's been a month since Rick told us he was being closed down and so far I haven't heard of anyone else meeting the same demise. Have I missed anything on the thread or am I correct that he is the only one? I've certainly had nothing happen to me so far and actually had a record (for me) number of points credited to my QFF account today for December transactions.

Coles likely complained to BankWest.

Or BankWest noticed the ridiculous increase in offline payments coming from Coles (which they would notice).
 
No issues for me since the phone call from Optus quite a few months ago, they haven't bothered me since. This Bankwest Account has definitely helped boost my QFF Points balance. 6,752 points credited this month. :D (I missed a few days due to Xmas)

If it continues, I'll be looking at booking a 140k oneworld award trip for late 2016 :D

Same thing I am aiming for - I've got 145k now. Wanting a RTW trip for my partner and I. Potentially will go business class. I'll be aiming to top off with a hundred thousand points or so to cover some hotel bookings etc.

*I don't just accrue points through this account.

840k: 1st for 2.

Only needing another 212k or 482k to reach our goal.

Should be able to atleast reach Biz. Within 6 months. Flights, CC debts (future bills), shopping (via cc no doubt!), fuel (ww edr / cc) and cheap payments!

Using "Rick" as a test case. Once FOS rules against one person then BankWest can refute FOS involvement and FOS has no real choice but to close the dispute if the circumstances are close to identical.

That would be true if the circumstances were indeed close to identical but given reputedly he is only one of two to receive the "letter" one suspects that is in fact not the case.

I did get a small parcel of points through today.

Only around 7,000. Looks like I may have received points for 50 transactions per day - and that's all !!

Much smaller than the 20 - 30k I was expecting.

However, given my account is 'closed', I can't get an eStatement to show 'how' I 'earned' those points ...

ALSO, you may be 'amused' to know, that Coles sent me a $20. gift card for raising the issue of one store assistant manager 'moving me on'.

The Regional Manager stated, there is no Coles policy that prohibits small 'split payment transactions'.

Well, if the FOS take a year to finalise ... I can wait !!

Are you sure about this, I had another BW account I closed some time ago. While the account was closed I still had internet access and could see statements on this account.

Regardless under the Banking Code of practice if you ask for a statement they will give you one (maybe hard copy rather than an estatement)

I only know about it as I know numerous people who work for BankWest - lol.

Both were kicked out for doing what "Rick" was doing.

Rick: They will provide you with a hard copy statement. You will have no argument to receive points after they advised you that your account was being closed. Only an idiot would continue to try after that point.

Do you know of any others who've had their accounts closed just for the 50 a day transactions through Telstra or Optus or similar? Or is it just those who are doing the 200 a day Coles transactions and things like that?

No - only for doing offline paypass.
 
So, during a phone call in October or so last year I was told that I'm eligible for the 10,000 points and I just need to wait for them to be accredited. Yesterday I looked into it again and just got a phone call saying that I'm ineligible even though I've deposited the requested amounts. Apparently, the system didn't recognise my registration so it's as if I was never part of the promotion. Yay.
 
So, during a phone call in October or so last year I was told that I'm eligible for the 10,000 points and I just need to wait for them to be accredited. Yesterday I looked into it again and just got a phone call saying that I'm ineligible even though I've deposited the requested amounts. Apparently, the system didn't recognise my registration so it's as if I was never part of the promotion. Yay.

For me, that would be the trigger to craft a politely worded "I played the game nicely and am a new customer... please reconsider your decision" email or letter to the manager of customer service. Can't hurt.
 
I have sent an email of similar contents, but I somehow have a feeling it won't change anything. It's not even about the 10,000 points, but about telling me I haven't clicked the link to get me off the case. I'm just disappointed in this whole thing.

I would push the issue. They tried that on me as well but relented when I said that I had a Bankwest email that states the following.

^Introductory bonus Qantas Points offer: Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account must be held for at least 3 months. Qantas Points will be credited within the 2 month period after satisfaction of these conditions. BankwestQantas Transaction Account must be open at time of the Qantas Points payment and linked to a valid Qantas Frequent Flyer account to receive the bonus Qantas points. Excludes existing Bankwest transaction account holders. The Qantas Points offer is subject to change. Offer ends 18 July 2014.
