Apologies if this has been reported earlier...

It *appears* duty free liquids may now be able to be purchased in Bangkok prior to flights to Australia. I asked at one of the shops if I could purchase for Australia and they said 'two litres', but wasn't really sure whether to trust the shop. However as I arrived at the gate they were wheeling an empty trolley away from inside the holding pen with a sign on it saying 'duty free collection'. So they may be offering this service similar to Singapore.

There were however a lot of tears from a plenty of connecting pax who had their tamper proof bags removed at the gate check. I confirmed with a couple of them that they had purchased these in Europe earlier in the day.

I think if you are tempted to purchase in Bangkok - make sure you get to the gate early enough to (a) collect your goods and (b) have time to run back to the store for a refund in the event the gate still tries to confiscate it.

Yes, they've been offering for about 12 months; I noticed last year when I was shooting inside BKK. My client had been keeping me updated and confirmed the week prior that it was going "live" for AU purchases.

I've never purchased as it's not that cheap overall for alcohol, but have grabbed some cigars; HKG much better in that regard though as well, so I usually stock up when I do a visa-run every 3 months as they offer single cigars as well - nice way to try out some new ones without having to but a minimum of 5. :)
