I've just booked BA15 SIN-SYD in J in September and (assuming they aren't on strike) was wondering if it is worth paying the extra SGD$122 to choose my seat. I haven't flown on the newish Club World, but I imagine there isn't really any bad seats.

And which seat to choose? From what I can tell it is the 4 class config. Are there any particularly good seats?

Cheers.

Hi there,

In my experience 15A and 15K are the best on the 777 4 class BA flight. You have more room and do not have to step over anyone to get out. The only issue is that it is a seat reserved for passengers with infants so often not released until 24hrs before the flight.

If you are WP or OWE there should be no charge to choose seats. The BA booking engine does not always pick up on this

Since it is a 777 (most likely, and also most likely a 4 class), there is no upper deck so no luxury in that regard there.

The best seats are probably in row 10, where there a couple of seats with good privacy and no need to jump over another pax/another pax having to jump over you. In saying that, I'd find it hard to stump up SGD122 just to get that benefit.
New to this forum.....

Can someone please confirm if the rear facing 13A is claustophobic or not?
15A is supposed to be the best, but apparently is held.

From your comments above I assume you are talking about 10A or B?

Is the front facing 10D OK? It is on the aisle but may have better leg room?

Thanks in advance

S$122 for a J pax to choose there seat. That in itself is a rort. With automated online selection that pricing seems unreasonable.

Yep online with QF FF lets me select seat free

Any thoughts on 10D vs 13A?

Sorry, can't help you with this one, since I don't suffer from claustrophobia I can't pass judgement on it.

CW seats are notorious for being claustrophobic due to their layout/design, with, I suppose, the "inner" seats (i.e. window and middle block middle seats) being the worst. It gets slightly more boxed in when the privacy dividers are raised and you're going to sleep in bed mode (since all you will see are a lot of tall walls).

Aisle seats, I would assume, have a bit more openness due to an aisle being next to them, rather than another CW seat (i.e. another wall).

If you sit in the EF seats (i.e. the two seats in the middle of a 4 cluster), if you keep the privacy divider between E and F open, I suppose that can give a sense of more space. Note that EF are both backwards facing.

A window seat (e.g. 13A) consists of one wall being a CW seat and another being a window. At least this is a row that has a window (row 12 does not have one, although this depends on the type of 777 you get, but this is likely), so if a window alleviates the sense of claustrophobia, this is a good bet. On the other hand, I have no idea how much space exists between the window seat and the window itself, and the curvature of the aircraft may have a narrowing effect if you are claustrophobic. From my view the window seats look rather cosy.

Here are a few pictures to guide you. I sat in 10E, so I'm sorry this doesn't really answer your question. But it can give you an idea, especially w.r.t. the spacing of CW:

Thanks for the photos, no I don't get claustrophobic, however a photo I saw on the BA website, the window seat did look very cramp, even the shot of you sitting looked narrow.

Is this just the photo? Are the seats the same width as QF J class?

Thanks again in advance

wont let me post photo or link.....it does look cosy (but narrow as female looks skinny) and I am on 7.30pm LHR-BOS so maybe stick with window

Me sitting - worth noting that I'm 172cm-ish tall and fat. In saying that though, IMO QF J Skybed I and II both have a bit more in width than BA's CW. I think on the spec cards they might argue otherwise.

Thanks, given they are sqeezing 8 seats into the same a 6 on A380 would have thought much narrower space surrounding seat, even if seat the same?

It can feel rather confined.

I wish I could say it's a bit like the space in most herringbone seats, but that might mean little to you.

Put it this way - with the divider screens up, there isn't much space to swing a cat...because you wouldn't have the arm space to swing it, not because the cat and you wouldn't find in the space :)

It's cosy, I'll say; not at all like a sardine can unless you are very wide.

I think the aisles are a half or full inch narrower than some airlines.

Any thoughts on 15E and 15F?

15E appears blocked (along with A and K) but F is available.

Worth the punt that E is not used at all and I have a large cabin to myself?

15 A,K,E should become available to select close to departure time if no-one has reserved bassinets in those positions, so wouldn't be banking on it staying empty any more than any other seat. 15A or K would be my 1st choices once they become available , otherwise I would be taking any aisle seat with preference of 10B or J

Thanks Dave,

Any thoughts on 10D? It is still free.

I can't recall; I don't believe it is any better than other seats in the cabin. Other than 15AK and 10BJ, I have no real preference for any specific aisle seats in the BA CW cabin; any other aisle seat would be fine with me
