Hi All,

I may have a trip to GYD (Baku Azebaijan) coming up and I was wondering if anyone else had been there before, if so, where did you get your visa? (there is no consulate in Australia - the closest are in Indonesia and Malaysia, but that's not exactly on a stopover on the way there - when flying QF/OW)

It looks like I can get a visa in 3 days in London which would allow me to fly QF to LHR, then BD to GYD four days later.

I know there are more direct options (with DXB, DOH), but the OW options to those points are not as appealing as LHR - not until April next year anyway.

Thoughs? Ideas?

As bizarre as it sounds, check out the Eurovision forumson other sites. Having just hosted the comp earlier this year, I'm assume a lot of The info there is still up to date.

I though it was at one stage paying a USD$100 fee at the airport, but no idea about now.

ok, here is an update for future reference:

As an Australian resident, I am in-eligable to get an Azerbaijan visa in London. I have been advised that the ONLY place I can get the visa is at the closest consulate in indonesia. According to the Indonesian consulate site, it takes 3-5 days to get a visa. The Consular section of the Embassy is only open Mon (2 hrs), Wed (3 hrs), Thu (3 hrs) and Fri (3 hrs), so I think the trick will be to travel to CGK on Sunday, get my visa application in on Monday morning, then pick it up on Wed or Thur (hopefully). Then fly CGK-GYD (via HKG-DME, HKG-DOH, SIN-LHR, SIN-DOH or some other combination) - I am wanting to stick with major ailines such as CX, QF, BA, QR with a preference for OW earning.

For Eurovision 2012, Azerbaijan introduced special visa requirements for the event - these are no longer available and needed a ticket for the event in any case to get the special visa. Similarly, for the 2012 Womens Football Euro cup - need event tickets to qualify and not suitable for business travellers.

If I do end up going to GYD, I'll add to this thread with more detailed information.

I suggest its worth a call to the folks at Gateway Travel ( Russian Gateway Tours ). I have used them for Ukrainian Visa in the past and they were very helpful and efficient. Their web site say they arrange travel to many places in the region and list Azerbaijan under CIS, with this link provided for on-line application. Might be a lot easier and cheaper than going to Indonesia to get it.

Note that I have no affiliation with this company except as a customer about 10 years ago. They have been doing this type of travel service for at least that long!
