Hi All

I took advantage of the 30% off QF classic rewards today and booked a return 1 nite trip to Ayers Rock for my 11 yr son during school holi . As we will be there for 24 hours (arr 1pm dep 2pm next day) can anyone suggest a budget accom Outback Pioneer Lodge room with ensuite and also how to fit in tour to the rock and the Olgas in that time......is it best to pre book the day tour and how far out do I book...any recommend on best tour operator?

Thanks

All the accommodation is owned by the same company from camping to the 5 star and is booked via the one site - should be easy to find something in your price range. No matter which lodge/hotel/campsite you choose you can eat at the restaurants and cafes of any of them.

With only 24 hours you can pretty much only have time to do Sunset and Sunrise viewing of Uluru (take a photo every 30 secs, then playback later to really see the colour change) and the Uluru base tour.

Personally id recommend 2-3 days for a visit to just cover the essentials i.e.:
Day 1: Base Tour of Uluru + Uluru Sunset Viewing (could also add one of the dessert dining options)
Day 2: Day tip to Kings Canyon
Day: 3 Uluru Sunrise, Afternoon Tour of Olgas including sunset viewing at Olgas then BBQ dinner under the stars.

Ideal itinerary for the red centre is 8 days: Fly into Alice springs (days 1-4), on day 5 fly to Uluru (day 5-8), fly home to Syd/MEL on day 8.

Noting your limited time at Uluru you will have to book the tour you want ASAP. Going during school holidays means the place will be crowded and tours booked out early.

Just doing the Sounds of Silence dinner is spectacular. Sunrise and sunset over Uluru. Maybe a walk around it in the morning 2-3 hours. But realistically that’s about it.

Agree but they are only there for a day.

I concur with recommendations that you stay longer. Uluru is magical and it deserves at least 3 days to do it justice.

You can cancel the booking without charges if you do so within 24 hours of the booking. Just putting it out there

You didnt say which holidays, but even in July there are heaps of flies (they are unbearable in warmer months) so pack that bushman's friend (so much more effective than aeroguard).

I would book tours in advance to ensure you get the ones you want, since the limited time offer no real flexibility.

And those flies bite too. I had blood running down my legs.

My suggestion is hire a car and a little after dawn, the buses will leave on mass and you will basically be alone at the viewing platform,so enjoy.

It's really easy to get around so hire a car.

My husband also enjoyed the sunset camel walk as well.
