Just getting getting our final 20K miles together for a trip to Europe in Aug/Sep 2013 in J and have been doing some research on seat availability going thru SIN.

Have read a lot with regards to unavailability of F & J only being available to KrisFlyers on the A380 and 77W.

However, seeing lots of J availability (x2 pax) on SQ212 (77W) from SYD - SIN for dates 13-20 Aug 2013 on Awardtravelr.

Are these true awards availability or the phantom seats that people talk about?

Cheers,
Aaron

Aaron, SQ amended their awards earlier this year.

The negative was that prices went up on many routes, but not all.

However the positive was that they opened up inventory on their "newer" planes that they had largely blocked out in the past.

ie I have 3 J on the 77W to Paris next June.

Woops.....forgot to mention that we will be using USDM for our award.......which awards are you redeeming with?

Hi Aaron
with US dividend miles you are looking at a star alliance reward redemption. I have one booked MEL/SIN/MUN/GVA/LHR/SIN/MEL all in J in feb next year using SQ/LH/Swiss/SQ the SQ planes are A380 and 77W. So yes it is very possible. If you sign up to Krisflyer (it's free) when you search the availability the Star alliance availability is the the saver fares not standard fares on the reward redemption

Unfortunately SQ212 is not normally a 77W, barring equipment swaps.
It's a 73A, which has the (sort of) new regional J and not that new F, which is same as the 77W.
USDM has usually more access to 73A J than 77W/A380 J.

That's interesting as all the SQ212 that I was looking at last night were specified as 777-300ER.

I will definitely signup to KrisFlyer and have a look.

Most availability for US Air DM seems to be with Thai out of Australia. Not all.

Aaron, which dates were these ? (So I can score New J rather than regional J)
cheers

I was looking at 13-20 Aug 2013.

If you get onto the KrisFlyer redemptions search as suggested by Danger UXB then there is heaps.....just look for the Saver fares.

Cheers,
Aaron

I plugged in those dates in a dummy booking on sq.com and they're coming up as 777-300 Refitted not 777-300ER.
The refitted 777-300 have a 2-2-2 seat config in J, whereas the ER has 1-2-1.
SQ212 has always been the Refitted version not the ER, except at the start when it was an A380.

EDIT to add: Awardtravelr is incorrect as it shows ER. SQ.com is more accurate, and so is AFF :)

Must have been my mistake and was looking at AwardTravelr.......It was definitely showing 777-300ER.......I think it must have been the SIN-LHR leg that I was looking at for the 77W.........

........anyway singaporeair.com is showing A380 (SQ222 & SQ232) from SYD-SIN on 13 Aug 2013 and for at least the following week that I looked at.......see the attached screen shot......

Are your SQ sectors just out of MEL to SIN? Otherwise A380/77W/A345 redemptions in SQ J or F you might as well forget trying with USDM. (unless you managed to secure seats when SQ released them during their recent systems upgrade... although hardly anyone took J... they all went for F!)

Hi Mel_Traveller
Sorry should have made it clear. My *A booking was made thru Kris Flyer about late Juy this year
Sectors are
MEL/SIN SQ A380
SIN/MUN SQ 77W
MUN/GVA LH little plane ?
GVA/LHR LX little plane?
LHR/SIN SQ A380
SIN/MEL SQ A380

It's all in J, though not expectng much from the LH and LX planes seat wise. 190000 KF points. The Kris Flyer booking blossom said when I was researching that the *A seats on SQ were the saver seats.
Are you saying that they don't release these to the other *A members?

Cheers Danger UXB

ah ok. i got confused since the OP was flyng on USDM, and you made reference to USDM in your post.

USDM cannot redeem on SQ premium long haul cabins.

So..........I guess I've been given a bum steer then........I thought it was too good to be true.......looks like no long haul J in SQ for me then........this time anyway.........

........or am I able to book SQ J from SIN - Europe on A380/77W/345 ?

yeah unfortunately. There are the odd times you can get long haul SQ J/F - like if they change an aircraft (plenty of people were booked on the 747 service JFK-FRA-SIN are now getting their flights on the A380. Sometimes too there is a brief period when they introduce the A380 that some J might open up, but as a general rule, don't even waste time looking.

Regional J is no problem, and region F on the last few planes that have it can also be had (and I mean the true regional F - not the refurbished 773 which has a semi 77W F product).

My apologies. I did not mean to lead you astray. So obviously SQ have their own *A availability on their own planes but do not release them to other *A airlines, they are only for use to Kris members purchasing *A redemptions? That is a bit rich but I am happy my points are with Kris.
Just a question then. What make the USDM bonus miles purchase so popular if you cannot getJ or F on SQ ? Can you utilise them on TG in J for example. I am pleased I found that one out now as I was thinking of going down that route with USDM this year

Apologies once again

You can use USDM on TG F and J without problem. And on SQ J regional. The popularity of USDM is that miles are cheap, and no fuel surcharges.

While it would be nice to to SQ long haul, by the time I have to pay for more expensive fares (for mileage earning), (and fuel surcharges?) I'd probably rather just bite the bullet and fly TG F.

Can you fly SQ J or F on SQ 773 refitted using USDM? e.g. SYD-SIN-SYD?
