It appears once your Australian accent is heard at Fairmont you become very second class and not deserving.

We enjoyed the Fairmont in SFO and no issues. Went the room upgrade and no discrimination for talking Aussie.

Just because the Caesar Salad was not so good did not cause the problem. We walked down to the Omni for the steaks.

FM Le Chateau Frontenac has always been welcoming.

Don't assume it's your accent. I've stayed at many of the Fairmont properties in Canada and found the service to be very "institutional".

Obviously YMMV applies here. Some more details would help in your issues.

We've stayed at more than 15 Fairmont properties in the U.S. And Canada and been members of their (free) Presidents club for many years. We've always had the best experiences at Fairmonts, room and suite upgrades, bonus dining offers, excellent Gold Club concierges. Considering NA hotels in general, Fairmonts would be our top pick of the chains. IHG would be at the lowest with Hyatt just below Fairmont.

And how or why does it appear that way? Honestly, its rare that we see such sweeping an condemnatory statements here on QFF without a skerrick of evidence or even hearsay!

I'm another happy Fairmont customer, per my TRs.

Maybe it wasn't the accent so much as the loud drunken "aussie aussie aussie oi oi oi" that dis-endeared the OP to hotel staff :)

I was going to give that a sharp rebuke but then I thought "It's Melbourne Jake".

PS I was not the guest.

So who was? What is the mystery? Did your mysterious friend enter wearing nothing but underpants and smoking a joint?? For Christ's sake give the thread a chance at reasoned debate.......

So what should we discuss here? Is it better to checkin with a Russian accent and order room service with a French accent? Should the Aussie accent be limited to interactions with the concierge?

And checkout with a Kiwi accent so they take pity and give you welfare?

Red ones on his head following the example given at a US conference by our previous federal communications minister I hope!

I am the odd one out.stayed at 3 Fairmonts in the Canadian Rockies. All expensive.Service at 2 of them poor. And some of the smallest bathrooms we have ever had.
But no problems being an Ocker.Plenty of staff hailed from Australia.
