Australian Credit Cards with a UK compatible EMV Chip

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if there are any Australian credit cards that are UK Chip and Pin compatible? It would just be really useful to have something along those lines, as its a frustrating situation when stuck with several cards which will not work. (I've confused the entire staff at Tesco's before.)

New amexs probably are... Cba isn't liked in many machines. Been a while since I've been in pommy land tho.

I was thinking of applying for the QF Amex discovery card. Its a shame the 28 Degrees card doesn't work there.

Hmm I just found a CC that gets 1pt/$1 spent and has no overseas transaction fees.

This is going to sound a dumb question, but you were able to put the pin in and it all worked fine, i.e. no need to sign?

I only ask because my Citibank Visa was accepted in the chip and pin slot, but I then had to sign.

OT, I have several cards with a chip.....however, I've never bothered to set up a pin.....only sign.

After 3 weeks in Spain, I can advise that just about every merchant will decline your chip card if no pin.....the only other cards I have are Amex & it didn't help much.

In the UK & other European countries I have never suffered such rejection.

Its not at all merchants. Its just a PITA when you're caught in a situation with no cash and the merchant wion't let you sign for things.

I have CBA issued chip & pin cards which work with pin in the UK no probs and UK HSBC issued chip & pin cards which work here with pin no probs.

I didn't realise there was a difference.

Can you pin for things with your CBA card in the UK or do you have to sign for them?

Yes these 2 cards worked, no need to sign but my Earth MC did not.
All a bit of a moot point to me as I don't have a 28 Degrees card and the majority of my overseas spend is either claimed as a Tax Deduction or re-imbursed. I still always use Amex where possible.
Did find it very curious to be asked for ID at several shops when wanting to use my Amex and sign for it

Same here! I have organised chip and pin for my Amex plat charge card so it will be interesting to see if that works OK in the UK. Should find out in just over three weeks.

More than that - Madrid, Sevilla, Granada & Barcelona....therefore, the whole county have a inclination to decline a chip card, with signature.
