I'll be heading to AKL in June and I am looking for a hotel with some luxury for 3 nights. I haven't been to AKL in so long I can't recall much about it let alone a good place to stay. I don't belong to any hotel loyalty programs.

So far I've seen:
Langham - approx $261 per night in a club room with city views. This means wifi and (club) breakfast are included. They are also offering a 3pm check out which is attractive given I am leaving on an 18:25 flight home. The downside seems to be a not-so-central location and a shower/tub combo which I loathe.

Sofitel - Approx $235 per night for a luxury marina view room. No breakfast or internet access included. I can see from the website there is a club/executive level but no club rooms are showing up when I search plus I can't find what is on offer apart from rooms "that provide additional benefits with personalized service." I don't know how to decipher that. :)

Hilton - $217 per night for a king deluxe harbour view room or $289 for a deluxe harbour view plus. Apart from 2sqm extra space I cannot see what the difference is between these 2 rooms. Again, no breakfast etc with either room and the rates are for pre-pay only. I've looked on the AKL Ports site and there appear to be no cruise ships coming in at that time, so should not obstruct any view.

All prices I've mentioned are AUD and from the hotel's own sites. I have not look at discount sites yet.

Any comments on the above hotels? Are there any other hotel I should consider?

Thanks, pw.

Maybe also have a look at the Sky City Grand. Not sure if cost is important, but this is a 5 star which can sometimes be very reasonable. Haven't stayed at any of the others

Stayed at the sky city grand this week.

It's excellent and the pick of the bunch. Great room, great restaurants and also a good spa.

It's choice bro.

I have stayed at the Hilton and it was fine.

No exec lounge but heaps of food options very close

We like hotel DeBritt - really stylish place in a great location.

So sad that the Westin has gone.....was a lovely place.

I second hotel DeBrett - stayed there in September last year. Good location, small and personable.

I stayed at the Pullman late last year and it was excellent. I was Accor plat so had an upgrade to an exec suite. It is a bit of a walk from the CBD.

+1 for the Pullman. The service was fantastic, very spacious room and only $5 by cab up the hill (walking down it was fine)

I love the Pullman.

It's the only place I've ever stayed at when in Auckland city (the airport Novotel is also pretty good for those OMG o'clock flights).

I'm heading over for a weekend at end of October and I booked Crowne Plaza Hotel for 2 nights for $339AUD thru Qantas and get 1000 FF points also. Its a Superior King room, its in a great possie in the CBD, and the pics on the website look good.

I spent one night in the AKL CP last year and have to admit I wasn't particularly overawed by the place. Nothing in particular, it just seemed a bit average. YMMV.

I just wanted to follow up and let you know I ended up at the Langham. The late check-out clinched the deal but it was unnecessary in the end as somehow I made it to a level in their loyalty program where 4pm checkouts are given (if available).

I highly recommend the hotel. I had a room on the 10th floor where the club lounge is and it was really handy. The lounge is fantastic - much better than the Melbourne Langham (except for afternoon tea treats). Everyone was really friendly and accommodating. I must admit in the beginning I thought Big Brother was watching as I was greeted by name as I got out of the cab. The same followed as soon as I stepped into the lobby and up in the lounge. It wasn't until later that I realised they must have read my name off my luggage tag while I was paying the cab driver and there really is no hocus-pocus going on. :D

I am embarrassed to say that I never even made it down to the waterfront areas as I was in and out of art galleries for most of the trip so did not see either the Sofitel or the Hilton.
