I did a quick search but couldn't find the answer.

Going to travel from LAX to ANC return in Y. AA schedule is not so suitable.
Does a QFF WP and/or SG gets any baggage benefits on Alaska Air? Neither QF or AS website mention anything about baggage, only on earning and redeeming points.

Cheers,
Ric

No. AS is not part of oneworld, so alliance status baggage benefits don't apply.
Unless the AS flights are part of the same ticket with the QF flight, where the long haul baggage limits will apply under IATA rules, there is no benefit or bonus for QF status holders on AS.

Have you booked the transpac flight yet on QF? If not, are you able to get QF to book the LAX/ANC/LAX flights on the international ticket then QF will be able to tag the bag through to ANC and issue both boarding passes and more importantly you won't need to pay AS for the baggage fees.

If for whatever reason you have to book the LAX/ANC/LAX on separate tickets you will need to pay for baggage when checking in with AS for the LAX/ANC flight.

On the homeward journey if your connecting flight ex LAX is within 12 hours of the AS flight ANC/LAX then AS will through check the bags and honour the transpac carriers allowance ie not charge you. This is provided AS have an interline baggage agreement with the onward airline but they do with QF & VA.

Thanks Himeno and Ozbeachbabe for your responses.

Unfortunately, I am travelling to LAX via HKG and stopping in LAX for a couple of days before heading to ANC. I thought that AS being a QF partner airline there will be some baggage benefits Even tried to book LAX/ANC/LAX as a QF code share ticket. Can't be done as apparently, it can be booked only as/with a connecting QF flight into LAX.

So in the end just booked and will stump up the baggage fees at check in! 3 pax X 3 pcs each both ways!

Thanks again!

Hi all,

What about if it is an AA flight number operated by AS or Horizon Air as AlaskaHorizon, do you get any baggage benefits then as QF SG or WP?

You may be able to upgrade to first class which would include some free baggage allowance. Some airlines offer this when you do OLCI or even at the airport for a couple of hundred bucks, certainly way less than buying a fare in F from the outset.

When you look at what you'd be paying in baggage fees sometimes the difference is negligible.

Unfortunately, I am travelling to LAX via HKG and stopping in LAX for a couple of days before heading to ANC.

What about the return journey? Are you flying same day ANC/LAX/HKG or stopping over again?

Even tried to book LAX/ANC/LAX as a QF code share ticket. Can't be done as apparently, it can be booked only as/with a connecting QF flight into LAX.

That's to protect the US carriers so foreign airlines can't sell cheap seats on empty sectors of intl tag flights thereby competing with the local market.

Yikes 9 pieces? Why don't you try doing a status match with the Alaska Mileage Plan?

Thanks Oz!
On the return, also stopping at LAX for a couple of days before flying off.
Will ask at check in for cost of upgrade to F.
The status match with Alaska Mileage Plan is a good idea. might give it a go!
Thanks again!
