A big missing mention is the 2003 announcement that Swiss was joining oneworld.

According to Wikipedia, that did not occur because:

"After almost a year of disputes, Swiss was finally accepted into the Oneworld airline alliance, after having been blocked by British Airways, which competes with Swiss on many long-haul routes. On 3 June 2004, Swiss announced its decision not to join Oneworld because they did not want to integrate their current frequent flyer program into British Airways' Executive Club. Furthermore, Swiss thought the relationship was one-sided, where British Airways sapped out the benefits of the airline, but they would get no return."

Which is kind of funny given what happened.. ultimately Lufthansa bought into them fully acquired SWISS and it now used LHs Miles & More currency.

LATAM was the biggest exit, some of their flights are still QF coded but for smaller South American countries it is only LA codes. Can still earn some QF points but not status credits on LA codes...

I miss LATAM the most out of those. I do remember a Reward ticket on Malev once. Frankfurt to Bucharest via Budapest.
Looking forward to Oman Air joining,

Kingfisher was only a few days away from joining the alliance, having competed all the requirements, when it collapsed.
The article makes it sound like they announced their plan to join, then collapsed before they did anything towards joining.

Yes, the collapse was quite sudden and caught a lot of people by surprise from memory?

Wasn’t that also the background story with Swiss? They got into a bit turbulence and that’s why LH Group (as mentioned earlier) came to the rescue (along with another alliance to join).

Hawaiian is going to be a great addition, especially for us Aussies. Oneworld will absolutely dominate the Pacific with JL, CX, QF, AA, AS and HA (and lets include FJ out of courtesy ;) ).

Yes, hopefully OW Connect will be quietly shelved and FJ cough up a few $ to fully integrate?
