are business award seats only available over the phone?

Im about to try and book business award seats to LA next week. Family is prepared to divide up on different flights to do so and have 4-5 dates to be flexible.Iv been watching for the time of day that the seats get released so I know when to get on.. but all availability is gone.

I first thought this was just because it was the "scare as hens teeth" SYD to LAX but I've done numerous searches looking for a business award seat to ANYWHERE in the world(asia/europe/ south africa etc) on the newly released date and there are none. I also appreciate that not all business award seats are released at once, but seriously... NONE on first day release?

which makes me think that ALL business seats need to be booked over the phone?? Can anyone confirm or deny this pls

I used points for 4 Business class on the same flight to AUH in November for April this year .
also booked 2 business class ADL - LAX for May this year in Oct last year . I have been to Europe and USA before on points in J class and have booked them online and never the call centre. I find the flights to Europe and Middle East on EY metal a lot easier to get

There are awards J & F to Europe almost any day I look at (EY) but I do know that LAX has dried up. There are other threads with some explanation on this.

Wanting to fly Dec 14-17 this year and then return 18-20 Jan 2017. Maybe I'm just too far out for everywhere looking 330 days in advance??
