Just got yet another flight change for a work booked flight in November. This time its not the QF7 leg but the US AA leg that has been changed, and the new flight has a 44min transit in DFW. Obviously this is unrealistic for transit through immigration/customs and then past security again to the next flight. So yet again ill be on hold for an hour or so this morning.

This is the third flight change in a month after booking, and last year for a similarly timed flight i had 13 itinerary changes of which 8 or 9 needed calling to readjust the transit times (including one lengthy 'discussion' about why transiting through DFW on the day before thanksgiving on a 1h10m transit wasn't going to work).

Is anyone getting these repeated flight/itinerary changes, and have any better solutions than listening to the on hold music (or non-existent callbacks) for hours?

Unless AA contacts you, I would simply wait until about 6-8 weeks before the flights and then call AA and ask for a more reasonable flight. Do your "homework" first and offer suggestions. No guarantee that they won't change yet again even at that point.

Happy wandering

Don't forget to use it to your advantage. If there is a better flight or routing that you would have preferred, even if more expensive, ask to change to it. A lot of the time they will be more than happy to.

Call AA even though its a codeshare QF leg? Its coded as a QF flight, but obviously serviced by AA.

Thankfully no significantly better flights or routings, its just one hop out of DFW this year, in comparison to last year where I had to skirt the continental US due to flight changes (and a snow storm thrown in)

If it's booked as a QF code on a QF booking, then you'll need to call Qantas to change the flight.

I've transited Dallas in 40 mins without drama at all. OK it was AA domestic to AA international but I walked straight from one gate and joined the boarding line at the other in different terminal.

Yes and it bugs the hell out of me, I've now got a choice of flights to SDF either 4 minutes inside MCT or wait 4 hours! Not happy at all.

They of course won't let me have the inside MCT, so I'm hoping for another schedule change to give me the 5 minutes I need.

I've put in for an F points upgrade which if it comes through I'll ask For a meet in DFW to get me on the earlier flight.

AA domestic to AA international may as well be AA dom to AA dom as there's no outbound customs to contend with nor going through a TSA checkpoint or baggage collection.

As the OP is on QF7 SYD/DFW they will need to:

a) Clear CBP on arrival at DFW terminal D
b) Collect bags
c) Drop off bags on the transfer belt after clearing customs
d) Line up and go through TSA screening point again
e) Take Skylink train from terminal D if onward AA flight departs from the A,B,C or E gates

I'd be concerned with double that time as 90 minutes isn't even enough. A lot of AA flights start boarding at T-45 with the boarding gate closing at T-10. Many airports no longer offer a Priority AAccess lane so even a WP/OWE gets to line up with the masses unless they randomly get 'TSA Pre' on their boarding pass.

Yes that's what I said, I walked straight from one to gate to the other. But there was a customs man at the departure gate checking random passports.

Bingo, and I'm not even doing any work with Defence anymore to use the MIL line.
