I have lovely memories of my visit to the beautiful mosque where I did the very interesting and entertaining tour and stayed for the dusk call to prayer. I combined that with a visit to the Falcon Hospital which is open on certain days and is booked on line. It is possible with careful planning (don't try it on a Friday), to do both those visits in the one day as they are not far from the airport. But, I suspect an overnight trip would be better, especially if the airline is shouting a hotel.

The Mosque : Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

The Falcon Hospital where the falcons are worth a small fortune and have their own passports and travel on 747s. : Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital

Now, there is the AUH new Louvre as well. Hope I can get to this soon :

Finally opening: First look inside the new billion-dollar Louvre

I saw that on a news website the other day, looks impressive. Just booked a trip on EY but only a quick transit, no time for a stopover.

I have only done a stopover once in AUH, and I splashed out to stay at the Jumeirah at Etihad Towers. Unashamed to say I did not leave the hotel beach or complimentary breakfast for the two nights.
