One of my pet hates is the passengers sitting behind me pulling on my seat to get out of theirs . They do it at any time, particularly on long haul when you are trying to sleep. I travelled PE recently to/from Mel/Lax on Qantas and they still did it despite the extra distance between seats.
Should the airlines put a large sign on the back of the seats stating "this seat is for the person sitting in it , not for your use also"
What action would others suggest to prevent his ...

When they do this to me, getting up, I pay close attention to await their return. As they return I sneakily activate the recline button, without putting my weight on the seat back. These people invariably grab the seat back to sit down again. The few times I've managed to get the timing right they haven't grab the seat back again.

I am very careful not to grab and bump seats.

What can you do about it, apart from being vindictive or ignorant, take yourself out of the problem and select a seat where there is no one behind you. This may sound weird but lately my best long haul flights have been in the last row, great service including first to get a meal, and one one to pull/kick my seat etc.

In the case of the 744s, Row 40 on the four class, and row 44 on the refurbs are good also for this without the long wait at landing that is the down side of seating in the seventies.

I like it!

I suppose it's all good as long as it doesn't lead to a medical diversion due to an inflight injury...

They're going to fall all of 20cm into a relatively soft seat.

Anyway, I see I've been called vindictive and ignorant. So I have nothing more to say to people who go out of their way to insult.

The disappointing thing is that generally speaking in Y most aisle armrests lift up making egress and ingress simple - if you're in the aisle seat just lift the armrest and turn sideways and you're in the aisle. Unfortunately most people appear unaware of this, and grab the seat in front as described.

This is enormously annoying and inconsiderate. I tend to just say something, polite on the first attempt and not so polite on the next one if necessary. It's right up there with middle seat passengers, despite being given the armrest, being all elbows throughout the flight.

And that 20cm is far enough to completely lose your balance and fall heavily regardless of how soft the seat top is. Besides, there's nothing to say you will actually land on the seat top. It is highly probable that some people will fall into their own seat or even completely to the floor.

A broken bone or two is then very probable. :(

That's my point they will fall into their own seat.

Fall on the floor? They are above their seat sitting down. Doubt it.

If only people were not so annoying and if only people were not so easily annoyed.
Ah! life could be so good.

People punching/tapping the AVOD touch-screens behind you....

I had this one on a long haul flight. Gripped the top of my seat with one hand, and punched at the screen with the other. A few glares at the right time seemed to put a stop to the worst of it.

Or the not-so-soft arm rest.

I generally don't have a problem with getting a little bit mean and having a prank, but I think this one is perhaps over the top. Anyway, let's agree to disagree with this one.

One of my pet hates on the 737 is when, during boarding, people are unable to walk past my J seat without supporting themselves by a) putting their hand on my seat back and b) pushing my headrest down so it slams into my shoulder blades. The plane isn't moving people! Unless you're drunk you should be able to stand upright without needing to hold onto something.

SWMBO was doing that on a recent flight for no other reason than she's not that tech savy and the screen wasn't very responsive. I suggested she pull the screen out a bit and it was problem solved.

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this but here goes anyway. People, air travel is generally speaking a bit of a chore. Take a cross section of humanity and jam them into a confined space for anything from an hour to 16 hours. They will all have different experiences and expectations. You'll have the FF's such as many of us, the newbies, young kids, old people, many with absolutely no idea about "acceptable" behaviour (who made up the rules anyway ?). To make the best of any flight, I try to lower my expectations as far as possible. Accept you are not in a restaurant, nor a hotel where you will get a good night's sleep. Accept that many of the pax around you may have never been on AFF or FT or maybe have never even flown before. Your aim, I believe is to get the best experience you can from your journey regardless of what is going on around you. Don't go out of your way to p!ss people off with your special tricks, you are all in this together, try and make the most of it so you can smile at the other end and say "that wasn't too bad" then move on to your next adventure.

I really like the positive philosophical view of flying. Such a great way to live life, be accepting and only sweat the major events.

I actually tried to move my aisle armrest on my last flight, was unable to do so and so had to hold back of seat in fronto of me to be able to stand up on a recent flight.
Somewhere on this site I remember seeing that there was a way to lift up the aisle arm rest . Anyone know where it was? JoyV

I doesn't matter that the person may not be able to get up out of their seat without some sort of assistance.

But they shouldn't be flying should they?

A lot of things annoy me as well but I just bite my tongue and try to ignore them.
