Hi,

I just booked a long distance Amtrak train trip for later next year using my RACQ membership to get the AAA discount.

I had accessed the 15% seniors discount for myself and noted that AAA members and their affiliates could get a 10% off the base ticket .

When it came to doing the actual booking, I could not get the webpage to accept the "310" number on the back of my RACQ card. Nothing worked.

In anycase, RACQ was useless as was a national site sycs.com.au that looks after international travel discounts for motor clubs in Australia.
In any case , the AAA contacted Amtrak and the answer is this:

What to do ?

On the Amtrak booking engine page under AAA discounts,

Enter the three digit club code in the club code field; 310
For the Membership Number, use the club code followed by three zeroes: 310000

It worked fine.

Handy to know for the future... :)

Wonder if European rail has any of the same discounts??

ozflyer from where to where and final price per senior pax?.

New Orleans to New York-one way 29 hours - all meals included.

1 VIEWLINER ROOMETTE

$497.00 no discount on this !

Standard Coach fare $150- this can be discounted.

1 ADULT - AAA RAIL FARE $135.00

1 SENIOR RAIL FARE $127.50

Looking at that whopping seniors discount, almost makes me want to be 'over the hill' some times... :)

I guess $135 is an ok price for that, with no luggage charges, but 29 hours is a bit of a stretch and i guess for $135 you don't get a bed, just a seat??

Thanks OP. Was on Amtrak early this morning to check LA to San Diego. For around $57 each way in business class this surely beats buying flights.

Will use my NRMA code and the zero's.

I'll need transfers between LAX and Union Station. That takes around 1 hour.
