Since joining this site not that long ago, we've discussed travel insurance and concierge services and FF points and other things, which caused me to rethink how I was doing things.
So, I applied to American Express for a Platinum Edge card and was immediately accepted. Then I thought about my now somewhat average Commonwealth Gold Awards card that I've had for 15 years with a $55,800 credit limit. I'd always knocked back CBA's invitations to go to Platinum or Diamonds because I couldn't be bothered changing all the direct debits on that card. I'd also had credit cards with CBA since 1978, as well as home and investment loans.
Seeing 40,000 bonus points on offer, and remembering our discussion about concierge services, I applied on- line for the CBA Platinum card, putting down the exact same details as I had with American Express.
And I was almost instantly rejected - the e-mail came a few hours later. Then I got a letter from CBA telling me that the rejection was based solely on what I had put down and that I could reapply if my circumstances changed.
So I spent an afternoon getting rid of all the direct debits on the card, and rang CBA and told them to cancel my Gold card. The lady from CBA was a bit mystified as to why I was knocked back and offered me a Platinum Awards Card then and there. I declined the invitation - as I was still quite peeved, and remain so.
This episode makes little sense to me. Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Renato
