AMEX Platinum Charge Benefits - Q&A

The supp fee for Australia is coming to stop overcrowding in the lounges. I think the US fee is $175 per card (the first one with MS might be free though)
GBP £285 per card & USD 195

AUD $99 would be getting off lightly. Having said that, the US card is far better value (if you live in the States). I’ll give my wife’s Plat Supp back if they start charging. She puts everything on her own Explorer card.

For something that has seemed remarkably stable & consistent for so long, there does seem to have been a steady stream of product devaluations lately

Shame they don’t ‘grandfather’ existing cardholders

Except the annual fee for the primary card is significantly lower than it is in Australia (at least the US one).

Also the Platinum card benefit in Australia is worse than the benefit you get in the US. I am only holding onto the card because of the grandfathered Amex Platinum Reserve travel credit, it's difficult to justify such a high annual fee as they keep increasing costs and reducing benefits.

I might have missed this, but has anyone been upgraded to Accor Gold? I was upgraded and never stay there

You've probably been credited the 20+20 bonus nights as an Accor Plus member whose year has just rolled over?

Where are people using the Amex $200 Dining benefit in Melbourne? What are the good restaurants that are under $100 pp?

At what point were the 20 status nights credited to anyone’s Accor account?
Had my platinum charge card linked to Accor for a few weeks now, upgraded to Accor Silver status once they were linked but still no 20 status nights.
I have a number of Accor hotel stays coming up soon which will push me over the 30 nights to reach Gold IF the 20 status nights appear…

Does anyone know whether you can pay with a different card when you book a Fine Hotels + Resort and opt to pay at the hotel?

I have an amex offer with a different card and I'm hoping to book the hotel via FHR then call up and prepay the booking with a different card.

In essence, no, we had to pay with Amex to the hotel.

You have to pay with Amex on an FHR booking, but it can be any Amex. Helpful when I had a Four Seasons offer on a different card, so booked through FHR, pay later at hotel, and gave them that different Amex card. Worked like a charm.

Same at Hilton properties - any Amex is fine.

You can even make the booking through FHR, then modify the Amex card on file in Hilton MMB. Good for those with US Hilton cards wanting the HH multiplier.

Yes, but as you said, it has to be an Amex card. Can’t for example book then pay at hotel with 28 degrees.

That's fine. It's another Amex card as I said I had an Amex offer. Has anyone tried paying over the phone with a different card?

can you still choose a companion card for the platinum charge? Eg reserve or explorer so you can double your travel credits?

No, new applications for Reserve card no longer come with a travel credit (existing Reserve cardholders still have that benefit grandfathered)

Which hotel? Over the last couple of years I've always received $140 AUD. These days I'd be expecting $150.

At $130 I'd be kicking up a stink.
My most recent stay at one of the FHRs in Tokyo, the hotel credit was converted to the spot rate 14890 Yen
