With travel for the rest of the year pretty much planned, I have one trip in Dec to undertake - SIN-SYD return, while also needing 100SC to reach SG. Discount Y gains 60SC return on this route, and, instead of going for Y+ and earn 120SC, I have elected to fly CX instead, doing SIN-HKG-SYD return for 100SC. Not sure what hit me this morning (probably not quite recovered from last night's drinks), but has anyone else tried to gain SCs by flying off in the wrong direction for 4 hours before transitting onwards towards the intended destination? Adding to that, my anniversary is the end of March, so I actually have another 3 months to get those SCs...

Sure have :p and I know a few people here have done much the same thing.

Perfectly normal on this site I would think.
I made Mrscove a WP without her really knowing what I was doing for her. She had been a bit unhappy that she had missed Silver by not having 4 eligible flights so we did a few runs to MEL and SYD on JASAs out of PER.
Doubts would arise if you started doing Status Runs thru Townsville and Darwin during the wet season.

Yes you are insane.... :D

Yes I have done it too...

Welcome to the Status Runner Club where "Creative" routing to achieve the best SC earn for the lowest $ spent is what we do for EVERY flight. Just do the maths to find the lowest A$/SC route.

On DJ I have found that selecting a route of Drw/Per/Syd/Adl earns a LOT more DJ SCs for the same price as Drw/Adl. QF and all other airlines have similar routing variations. So seek them out and max your SC earn per $ spent.

Around here you'd only be considered insane if you considered it insane to consider doing this :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Have done the CX back-track from Perth before. Enjoyed it even with a 55 minute connection!

If it is the right price I fly CNS-SYD-BNE nearly weekly if I can all up is worth 30 status credits.

If cheap enough I fly TSV-CNS-BNE as often as possible...

Small gains but big results at end of the SC year..

And I thought I was bad...
Suddenly, I feel like a tourist again... :D

It was great, PER-KUL in 12 hours, arrived earlier than my colleague who had left on the direct BNE-KUL service, so felt better the day he arrived.

Would the new shell seats make the trip any harder, I do not know?

Not necessarily the wrong direction, but to get from Adelaide to Tampa, Florida once I went ADL-SYD-HKG-TPE-NRT-YVR-DFW-TPA...... :D

I can certainly test out these shell seats...

While we are here, would you prefer SIN - HKG - SYD return on CX, or SIN - MEL - CBR - SYD - MEL - PER - SIN on QF? All in Y though. They are, surprisingly, the same price.

How much status are you chasing?;)

Why fly direct if you can connect ;-):)

I think about the $15 billion owed to the Australian Taxation office by slow and non payers and how many frequent flyer points that could be made!

Nah, I fly DRW-CNS-BNE as oppsed to DRW-BNE - gets me an extra 10SC

I could do DRW-GOV-CNS-BNE and get another 5!

:D

Try - jfk-dfw-lax-jfk-nrt-hkg-syd or atl-mia-jfk-dfw-lax-syd

Seems fine to me just not sure why you didnt go yvr-dfw-ord-jfk-tpa ;)

Unfortunately time constraints - I had to be there for a meeting on a particular day :(.

I did make up for it though over the next 8 weeks; ADL-HKG-ICN-HKG-ADL,
then 6 days later; ADL-SYD-LAX-DEN-OMA-ORD-LGA-IAD-DFW-LAX-SYD-ADL,
then 11 days after that; ADL-MEL-LAX-PIT-ORD-SFO-SAN-LAX-MEL-ADL,

so hopefully I'm redeemed!
