Picked up a thread on flyertalk noting some good business fares departing Spain to the Caribbean and returning to Paris. Am going to be in BCN in September so decided to book BCN-MIA(overnight)-UVH(3 days)-NYC(6 days)-CDG all on AA in business (first for the short haul legs). Looks like flat beds on the EU-US legs.

It looked like an interesting add on to the holiday - and I'm always up for a long weekend in NY - but perhaps I'm mad?

Priced out at ~$1650 AUD each in case anyone else is at all interested. The price seemed a bit sensitive to dates but google flights lets you play around with options quite easily. Based on flyertalk posts, you seem to be able to create even more adventurous routings if desired. You seem to be able to select other options in the Caribbean too (eg. St Kitts)

To answer your question first, I think everyone here is crazy! ;)

Looks like a good deal, what's the SC earn?

Looked like it should be around 490 SC to me - but had had a couple vinos when I worked it out last night so I may have hit a button wrong somewhere

I will play when I get the time - but any ideas if it works the other way - ie starting from the Carribean?

Not as far as I can see - I think may only work spain - caribbean - france. I have heard reports that it can work france - caribbean - spain but couldn't see that myself.

I'm guessing that the UVF-NYC is via MIA? As I don't think there's a nonstop.

Lots of variations of this, eg BCN-MAD-LHR-ORD-CLT-JFK-SXM|SXM-MIA-DCA-JFK-CDG $1507USD 680SC http://goo.gl/flights/TUNN

For memory it southern Europe to Caribbean to northern Europe or the other way around. People say they have F all way but i think you had to do this through the AA website. ITA matrix didn't work on F i think.

There was a posting about a guy doing one after the other so that is something to think about too. Stopovers allowed on the way back I think. Some examples of the way back. I got it under $1500 on more direct routings.

AMS-LHR-JFK-PIT-MIA-SCL|SCL-DFW-PHX-ORD-CDG $2494 USD 780SC http://goo.gl/flights/rn0k
AMS-LHR-JFK-PIT-MIA-SCL|SCL-MIA-PIT-JFK-BOS-MAD $1729 USD 730SC http://goo.gl/flights/BprQ

Easy to maintain WP in 2 awesome weekends.

No you are not crazy! This is awesome. A few weeks ago I tried very hard to talk my fiance into this fare (to SXM) and did not succeed.

I can't exactly remember where it was on Flyertalk but there was a thread where all the plainspotters would co-ordinate their trips to SXM to watch the landings. SXM is awesome if you are just interested in the beaches as well. Or a short hop over to St Barts to party with the rich pretty people.
