Hi All,

Done a quick Google and couldn't really find anything..

I'm looking at some BNE>CNS flights, and have seen some are by Virgin, some SkyWest, and some "Alliance for Virgin Australia".

Anyone able to explain the Alliance flights (e.g. DJ 783, DJ 784)?

Thanks!

Alliance Airlines Fokker 100, I would assume no advance seat selection for the F100 but try to get as far forward as possible, no J class, Y seat pitch much better than average, maybe slightly faster than a B738 or B737 for flight time, way faster than an E190, no IFE - but you can't expect IFE on VA now anyway, crew are usually very good, not sure about the catering....

I would do it if the time and price was right.

Great, thanks for the replies!

I didn't realise there was an airline called Alliance, makes perfect sense!

The price is the same as the Virgin flights.. and for my requirements, the times are better. May give them a go then.

Thanks

From what I have heard the Alliance crews offer great service - the fact that both major airlines use Alliance is a good sign too!

Interestingly enough I noticed a few months ago, comparing Boeing 737-8 & Embraer E190 descriptions, the E190 has a higher maximum cruise speed - can an avgeek/pilot comment?

The next gen 737s and E190s have the same cruise speed, M.78 which is faster than the F100 at M.77.

The main differences with the F100 is no electronic devices or phones can be used, restricted/ different catering including a reported lack of coffee on the shorter ROK runs.

Thats what I would have thought too - but if you look at the BNE-CNS flight times on the VA booking engine its the other way around? According to the VA website the BNE-CNS flight takes the following amount of time:

B738 2hrs 30min
F100 2hrs 20min
E190 2hrs 30min

I guess the VA website is not totally correct? Or dosen't match the performance data of the aircraft anyway.

I dont think thats indicative of actual aircraft speed, probably more to do with system delays at departure or arrival time and recognition of these, for instance coming back:
