Merry XMAS!

I thought for this festive season I share a resource I have been using for sometime - the desk reference guides of the major airline alliances. Now I know some of you may be wondering, why would you bother carrying these documents around on your phone when you travel? Well, it turns out that if you know the policy of the alliance which the airline you are travelling on is part of, it makes it much easier to claim assistance and enforce the rules provided by the alliance, particularly for elites.

Case in point, back in 2018 I was travelling from London, Ontario to Saint John, New Brunswick (connecting in Montreal). I thought a 3 hour layover would be plenty but as it turns out the flight from London to Montreal was delayed resulting in a misconnect. Long story short, I was able to cite a rule in the Star Alliance manual to force Air Canada to put me up in the hotel, provide meals, etc.

Anyway, enough with the blabbering here are the relevant desk reference guides that frontline agents of airlines who are part of some alliance use:
I couldn't find the equivalent guide for SkyTeam... yet but reckon this will could be useful for members given how the coverage both alliances have globally.

Jeepers, those OW docs are *very* old including a non existent airline and a not so recently departed one.

But handy if you have an undated AB OWE card laying around!

Couple points: airline alliances rarely update those manuals (i.e. they're not updated on an annual basis) since updating policies requires agreements from all airlines in the alliance. Second, if you can find a newer manual online I'd encourage you to post it. That's the latest I could find through a simple Google search. Also equally important is the second OneWorld document I link to the ticketing & disruption guide. Yes it is from 2016 as well but I suspect most of the policies there would apply today.

That’s the scary thing is that they're still out there. The whole interline of baggage rules have changed and the abomination of OWConnect was introduced since 2016…
