All airport stop to Vancouver using points???

Hi all,
Haven't been here for quite a while but am taking the fam. for a 6 week house exchange over xmas/new year in BC Canada. I have 350,000 points so am trying to make the trip as cheap as poss. (albiet I have left my run very late!) My prelim searches indicate that I am going to have to fly to LA and then look for some cheap flights to Vancouver. I have enough for 3 seats and will have to buy one. Can someone explain to me why a purchased ticket only takes 12 hrs and is direct but when I look at FF seats, the min hours is 25 and goes via every airport between here and there?? Any other help/suggestions for my predicament would be greatly appreciated as I need to book the flight urgently to have any chance of FF seats.

I'm afraid that your predicament is not at all clear to me.
I presume that you are starting from SYD. Correct? Are your points with Qantas? If that is so, the most likely routing would be SYD - LAX - YVR, although I have also done SYD - NRT - YVR.
Next, you say you can do this itinerary in 12 hours. Mmmmmm. I would check this. No airline would do it in that time, even if they flew direct, and I don't think anyone does. Maybe AC.
Finally, you talk about a 24 hour routing through "every airport in between". With which airline, and through which airports?
If you explain your situation a little more explicitly, we may be able to advise you.

Air Canada flies direct, however is still significantly longer than 12 hours. Star Alliance points would take you with UA, AC or NZ, and hence it could end up as 24 hours if you have to fly say SYD-AKL-LAX-YVR on NZ and UA.
