My experience is that I check out the options every time. Sometimes the airline options are good/best sometimes third party options are better.

I prefer to make my own private transport because it means the driver/shuttle is there only for us. If I have to wait for a dozen/bus load of other people, that also means we arrive at the hotel the same time and then have to wait to check in. Screw that, driver at baggage with my name, takes my bag and go.

How much luggage do you have? Don't forget to check out public transport options including public bus and S bahn/tube/métro. Many hotels in Europe are very conveniently located near transport hubs providing you don't have too much luggage.

I dislike hotel shuttles unless they are free. I hate that many of them go via 20 hotels to get to your hotel. Always squashed in and never enough room for all the had luggage.

Generally organise my own transport from airport to accommodation - usually via others recommendations. If none available, then via the Internet.

It will depend on which city you're visiting, and where the hotel is (and how much luggage you have, how physically able you are, etc., etc. ...), but I usually take a look at the 'Airport Express' style train service into town. I often make use of the local 'Metro' style train service during my visit, so if necessary I transfer off the Airport Express train onto the Metro to get to a station near the hotel.
Sometimes a coughtail of Airport Express & a short taxi ride can work best.
There's a lot of variables, but often the Airport Express will be quicker than a taxi or shuttle by a large margin, and usually far lower cost too.

Pretty new to it but I have really appreciated the qantas website when it comes to booking transfers from airport to hotel. Also depends where you're landing. Dad and I ended up with our own guy in Budapest both ways driving us - yay!

However in Vienna I would train it. We stayed at a Hilton across the road from the train station so totally convenient.

Then we trained from LHR to the city during peak hr and that was cough but entertaining yet cold! I started thinking how I might do it differently next time. I think we used local airport bus on the return which was also cough from T4.

I booked an Oz transfer one time and ended up going around lots of others hotels. I was wishing I'd taken the train as you have to get up so much earlier than normal for those types of transfers.

I'm keen on Uber but I think I've only used it once in Oz but lots in NZ.

Also depends on number of people you're travelling with as acceptable prices change depending on numbers.

Anyway, my go to site is QF as I figure they choose reliable operators and any activities, restaurants or transfers booked through QF I've never had any issues with.

Pretty sure some other airlines offer transfers via their websites too if you want to dedicate your points somewhere.

Thanks heaps NZflygirl for your contribution and related experiences...will surf the QF site to organise myself.

What cities ? every one in Europe has many options from public transport to private drivers .. some options are better than others . Do you have a budget ?

Budapest...Singapore and Dubai....no budget in reality..juzt want A goo x service and not get ripped off and driven on a unnecessary green arrow turn of the city...smiles

I was in BUD few weeks back . The hotel i stayed at organised a driver at HUF9900 (EUR33) for the 25 min drive to down town hotel . They were waiting at arrivals with a sign. Others in my group got a taxi (was 6500HUF) . The taxi option you go to a desk and show them your hotel booking details and they then print out something to give to the driver. The taxis in BUD are clean and modern and all the ones I got in the drivers spoke English and took direct routes.

I would not recomend public transport from the airport as it is a bus and 2 trains to get to most places down town.

There are a few ATMs in the baggage claim area to get your HUF if you don't have any on arrival
