I am planning to make a "side trip" from Milan to Helsinki in May next year

There appear to be several possibilities

Direct flight with Finnair, BA via LHR, SAS via CPH, Alitalia (using KLM) via AMS , LH via MUC, etc.

We will be flying economy as J class fares are too expensive.

Do members have any thoughts on which airline would be preferable ?

If you have oneworld gold then Finnair or BA. I've flown finnair, they're fine. BA may offer you cheap upgrades either at time of purchase or later on, but transfer via LHR can be painful.

As you're flying economy, the only real option without inflicting unnecessary pain on yourself is direct on Finnair, regardless of any status..!

If you have one world status you'll get free exit row seating on Finnair too.

Many thanks to everyone.

It is clear that Finnair is the way to go, and given I am LT QF Gold, and my wife will be the same by then- it the Finns win .:D
