I searched high and low here, SB website and Google et al and can't find what time SB checkin opens in SYD pre-SB141/QF363 (codeshare).

Standard 3hrs?

Anyone had success with earlier checkin at QF if booked on QF#?

Looking to make the most of a 28hr Cyclone Cook delayed 1620 departure with a sleep in but long lunch in QF 1st Lounge.

Depend who the carrier is. If SB then it is 3 hours.

As an aside, let me know what condition NOU is in after the cyclone, I am visiting next week and staying at the Hilton and want a heads up on any damage etc

Thanks. It's SB but QF code. If not open when we arrive, I'll try my luck at QF.

Also staying at the Hilton. So should be able to provide a running commentary!

Not that I have flown SB, but I am fairly sure QF will re-direct you to the SB check-in

Even if QF code, they will direct you to SB. 3 hours prior.
That has been my general experience. Once they checked me in for FJ but subsequent time sent me on.

My memory may fail me but QF used to do the ground services for FJ at SYD, but not anymore?

Ok. So QF computer said "Yes". BP and luggage checked 4hrs pre departure at a relatively quiet QF 1st checkin. SB checkin had zero sign of life.

Immigration computer said "no" - too early but quickly fixed.

Enjoying a long lunch for a 28hr delayed flight.

Thats good news. I wonder if your WP status had some "pull".
Hope holiday is a good one despite the recent weather

Oh- that's new! I very vividly remember a rather painful wait until the AirCalin checkin opened a few years back :-|

F.Y.I It appears, on your return, that check in only opens 2 hours before departure. (Don't know how true that is) and the Air Callin lounge only opens 2 hours prior as well. Your up to date observations on this would also be handy for me on your return if you have time

Always checkin with the operating airline however in this case as QF do SB checkin technically they are the 'operating carrier' otherwise they wouldn't have access to the SB system.

Did you have checked bags or HLO?

That's the norm but if your T-3hrs - doesn't matter going to the op carrier. But it never hurts to ask in specific situations like this ie QF's homeport and a QF codeshare flight. After all, if you're connecting from say Dubbo, there is a very good chance your luggage is checked all the way and you'll have two BPs!

I wasn't aware that QF did SB checkin but if they do - then potentially fare game for all on a QF flight #?

Maybe even SB flight # but you won't get early access (none in fact) to QF 1st Lounge).

Yes, check luggage as per post above.

SB have online checkin - excluding SYD and a couple of other ports.....

That's probably ample time. I read that the SB lounge is adequate but nothing to rush out and spend more than the essential waiting time. I'm on QF back to SYD departing at 12:30. A leisurely breakfast and checkout before schleping back to NOU - I'd be aiming for a 10:30/11ish arrival travelling in J.

As an aside, let me know what condition NOU is in after the cyclone, I am visiting next week and staying at the Hilton and want a heads up on any damage etc
Well, it's dark at the moment but first impressions driving in - "what cyclone?". Further update over the coming days.

PS. First time in NOU. So far, impressed with the Hilton rooms. Upgraded to a deluxe 1 Bed Suite. Expecting a nice view in the morning.

My flight is the NOU-BNE which departs at 17.15 so I was hoping to get into the lounge during the afternoon after getting kicked out of the hotel @ 12.00

That's good to hear about the hotel after many negative reports on TA. I have booked a Deluxe 1 bedroom with ocean view so assume it would be what you have received. As a HH diamond I don't expect any upgrade as I don't think there is any room class better than that.

I booked a King 1 Bedroon Appt - Ocean View. Prior to arrival, I could see that I'd been upgraded to the Duluxe room. Interestingly, I'd dropped from DIA to Silver - but back to DIA (status match) literally the day before. All the welcome stuff still had Silver but I was quickly upgraded in their system as DIA. The Deluxe room (we're on a high floor) has very nice views looking west. Huge sitting room with dining table. Off that is a large terrace balcony with table, chairs and sun beds), also has a kitchenette, laundry. Seperate loo and Bathroom. Seperate Bedroom with another balcony and seperate AC. Only real critism would be a very Euro style shower over bath.

DIA gets complimentary HS internet (waive the 4000 Fee) and buffet breakfast x2 (waive 40,000 fee). Breakfast is not expansive but fine when it's free! There is a good selection of restaurants and cafes in the immediate vacinity.

If you're looking for a "resort" style hotel you might be disappointed. It has a very small pool area. Ok for a dip but not necessarily sitting around reading a book and sipping a coughtail kind of pool. Also, it is not beach front. You have to cross the road and try your luck at the 'beach' area. As far as I can see, that seems to be the only reason for some of the poorer critiques? Although I picked it because of relatively high rating. People looking for a resort style hotel would probably be happier at Le Meridian. But it seemed to be much more expensive but definitely has a nicer pool area (but riddled with children yesterday when we walked through) and has direct beach access. But the beach isn't anything special.

Only other criticism would be the Hotel arranged transfer. Arc en Ciel is the major provider and used by Hilton and apparently most hotels it turns out. 6000 for two - we thought it would be a small van but we ended up on a 48 seater bus. Being some of the first off the plane, we waited close to an hour before departing on the 50km ride in. Fortunately the Hilton was the first stop. We picked up a car in town and will self drive back to the airport...

Drove around a little bit today and there really doesn't seem to be any significant signs of cyclone damage or even obvious signs that a cyclone passed through. Heading north for the day tomorrow - maybe up there where it passed over.

Thanks very much for the information re hotel. I think cook went over about 50 Klm north of NOU. Just a little bit further than the airport. Thanks for the report

Doing Air Calin and the Hilton later this year for the first time - appreciating the details SYD.
