I know most of you are OW loyal, but for those of you who are on the dark side (just kidding) with *A, Air NZ just released a pretty good J Class fare of $6619 inc taxes (ex. BNE/SYD/MEL/OOL) with slightly higher fares on offer ex ADL/CNS/PER for travel 9 May-30 Nov. 2010 and on sale to 31 March 2010.

Given its normally $10145 inc taxes, its not a bad saving.

TG

Hi TG,

Where might the destination for this fare be, exactly? ;)

Gosh i'm clever sometimes...no wonder they say men can't multitask!

It's LAX.

TG

Aha, somewhat less attractive.

Isnt that around the usual VA price (for "discount J) and thus would be easier direct rather than via AKL??

Thanks TG!
For anyone interested, I've located the fare in EF - the fare basis is JSPCLF.

Quite an attractive fare, and it's not like AKL is the most difficult airport to transfer at.

In fact, some have been known to cop the AKL transfer rather than cop 14 hours in UA's old Biz.

Amen indeed!

Hows Paris treating you NYC?

TG

Well, to be honest, I miss New York at the moment. Paris is a lovely city and we have spent a lot of time here previously, but NY is simply on another level. I really wish that Concorde was still in service, because it would make weekend trips considerably less arduous. It's just a matter of acclimatising, and I'm sure that I'll adapt.

Having said that, the job is brilliant. It's only a few short years ago that I was writing credit derivatives for a large investment bank, and now I'm doing something so different that I have to pinch myself sometimes to ensure I'm awake. (And yes, I probably did make a contribution to the "credit crunch", but to quote Krusty the Klown, "They drove a dump truck full of money up to my house!. I'm not made of stone!")

My partner (The Spending Machine) is much, much happier in Paris, since we are so much closer to the family in Zurich, friends in London and, of course, friends here in Paris. A happy partner means a relaxed home-life and that's a relief. The language isn't a problem since TSM and I have only been speaking French to each-other for about 3 years now, initially to get me up to speed (meetings at HQ are in exclusively in French, so you speak well it or you don't get very far) and then to keep us both on the ball whilst living in NY, where most people don't even speak English properly. My accent is getting better and better, too: soon I hope to have snooty waiters in fancy restaurants desist from asking me if I require the English menu.

So I suppose it's all good. The cold will be over soon (it's precisely 0 degrees Celsius right now at 10.16am, and -4 with wind-chill, but let's face it, NY isn't exactly Curaçao either!) and then I'll be right! :)

It sounds like quite a good saving, but I can't quite see who would actually use it (NYCguy notwithstanding).

The corporates of this world have their contracts with the airlines, so it doesn't really impact them, and the number of private citizens (like me) who would want to pay out this kind of money for 2 x 12+ hour flights is fairly limited, I would have thought.

For $6,600 I can buy 3 x round trip tickets from LHR to MEL, all upgraded to C class, and earn over 150,000 *A miles in the process.

Am I missing something? I'm not super rich like NYCguy, but I'm not a pauper either (I'm cash rich and asset poor).

And BTW, you didn't mean the dAArk side did you?
