I've just noticed that the United website is showing some (limited) partner award availability on Air New Zealand's flights between BNE/SYD and Norfolk Island (NLK). I've just checked for availability in May/June but there may be other dates also.

E.g. NLK-SYD award availability in June:

BNE-NLK is also available. United is charging 19,300 miles + taxes in economy, although the miles required will be different with other frequent flyer programs.

As Air New Zealand is a Star Alliance carrier, you should be able to book these seats using any Star Alliance frequent flyer program. This would include Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, United MileagePlus, Air Canada Aeroplan, etc.

If using KrisFlyer, NLK doesn't appear as a destination on the Singapore Airlines website so you would need to call SQ to book (search first for availability on the United website). The price should be 12,500 KrisFlyer miles + taxes one-way.

With Air Canada Aeroplan, for example, it's also 12.5k points + taxes, although there is also a partner airline award booking fee thrown in.

As Air Canada also happens to be a Virgin Australia partner, you can add in a domestic Virgin flight on the same ticket for the same number of Aeroplan points.

Norfolk Island is one of the only "overseas" destinations we can visit right now, so may be of interest to some.

Interesting option. Although Tasmania is probably a bit easier to travel to if wanting to go overseas. 🤭 And has scallop pies everywhere.

Lifemiles is also showing limited availability SYD-NLK (as well as BNE). But not economical... 21,000 miles each way plus $12.91 (plus the USD25 booking fee). Cheaper to buy the fare outright with NZ.

If NZ flies to NLK, but QF doesn't. And NZ is releasing some award seats to partners. And QF is a relatively new partner/frenemy where you can use points...

Any QFF seats available?

I believe QF points can only be used to book Air New Zealand flights on NZ domestic routes (so, not to NLK).

Well 4 minutes after my last post, Qantas announced it will be flying to Norfolk Island for at least the next 3 months! So perhaps you will have an opportunity to use Qantas points to fly there, after all @Scarlett!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Qantas have replaced Air NZ for at least the next 3 months on the route.

Yes there has been extensive discussion about this here:

What's not clear is if anyone was booked on a Star Alliance award seat on the route whilst Qantas is operating and if they've been transferred to the Qantas service. Anyone with a paid ticket has been transferred (noting that Air NZ award seats directly from them are considered paid tickets) so it'd just be those booking in X class that could be impacted.
