Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advise on some intra Europe flights the Mrs and I are taking in Jan 2014. Our "current" plan is to fly from CDG to FLR and make our way across to Venice and then south down to Rome. Then catch a flight from FCO to CDG.

Not a helluva lot of options for direct flights which leaves only AF or AZ as options for the FCO to CDG leg. Both leave 15 mins of each other in the morning (7:00am and 7:15am) and the price is the same. I believe they both run A318-321 on this leg however I thought I noticed that AZ run a 777 on this leg as well but can't seem to confirm this.

All that aside which one would you chose? Flights will be in Y and connecting onto a CDG to BKK flight. Appreciate any input or insight :)

If price is the same and the planes are the same then I would choose Air France. I had some bad experience with Alitalia a few years ago. Their service is not as good as Air France IMO.

Thx boomy - Was leaning towards this as well.

I would avoid both if possible. Had Terrible experiences on short haul with them both in the past. Italians decided to strike one day so i was stuck in Rome airport overnight. Air France are useless at times and delays common.

Given that choice, I would pick Air France over Alitalia. Done quite a number of domestic and intra-European flights with them and they were all fine and on time.

Off topic slightly

Have you considered an overnight train from Rome to Paris as an option ?

Save a hotel night instead !

We did but the cost was cheaper flying. Also we wanted to maximise the time in Rome as we are only there for a short while.

Well in typical fashion I've gone one of each. AF or rather CityJet from CDG - FLR and AZ from FCO to CDG. The return leg gives me plenty of backup's should there be any delays or issues with AZ.

Thanks for your help guys - appreciate the input

Both are horrible airlines. Both have massive union issues, strikes, etc. But Air France has a horrible safety record...

Having flown both a number of times, I'd take AF. AZ like to weigh your hand luggage and if over 7kg will make you pay extra to check it in.
AF resemble a full service carrier, AZ like low cost.
Both will serve a very light snack and basic drink in Y.
AZ do have a cool lounge in FCO with a free flight sim that I did enjoy, but only for J pax or ScaryTeam elites.
