Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone has had any experience on AC from homeland to SYD on the new J lie flat service (weave pattern ala CX/ANZ) or indeed has any views either way or tips on flying AC from Toronto.

It was booked to get around the TBIT mess in LA (trip originates in DC) and also stops in Vancouver - same aircraft from YYZ though.

It maybe a bit longer but takes some stress out of it if you find LAX too demanding and over the top.

Kind Regards

Spruce. :D

Can't help with that actual routing - but have flown in AC's 763 with the same (?) seat...

It is truly flat.. but felt narrower to me than the NZ seat... and not as comfortable..YMMV of course.

Service was nothing to write home about... food was fine.

Slept well enough!

I had a few legs on AC as part of a round the world two years ago: Sydney-Vancouver-Toronto (+ Havana-Toronto-Paris that is irrelevant to your question).

The seats were great and were very similar to Air NZ. The new 777 product was fabulous and was miles ahead of the older A330 J product (which had cradle seats). I see some negative criticism around regarding the AC product, but I could only sing praises for the 777 product. The food was nice and the amenity pack was adequate.

We spent a few days in Vancouver and caught the AC34 YVR-YYZ 777 service, so we didn't do it in one trip. The domestic YVR-YYZ leg had a noticible drop in service i.e. the food was cough and the FA's were surly. I would recommend stopping in Vancouver to break up the trip as the SYD-YVR journey is long and really takes it out of you.

Hope this helps - it was so long ago so the memories are vague.

Have flown J around 6 times over past 3 years on AC 33/34 777 service. Seating seems a little narrow as mentioned before. There are numerous reports of IFE not working when you visit websites like Skytrax. I had one experience of a faulty IFE and received points compensation.

Food definitely not as good as J with QF or NZ. But it is a night flight at least from YVR-SYD departing around midnight and perhaps any faultly IFE or food quality is a small consideration if you can sleep in the fully flat bed.

One important tip if flying with a notable other is 777 J seating allocations don't match exactly opposite each other. i.e. 1A is not opposite 1D and 1G/K are not directly opposite but instead staggered a row forward. This is because the entire centre D/K seating starts one row ahead of 1A/K. Check actual seat maps like seatexpert.com and you will seating lines up better as 1A/2D or say 4G/3K. Confused??
