Air Austral between Sydney and reunion Island.

I am booked to travel economy on Air Austral between Sydney and Reunion Island in july. It is a 12 hour flight. Have opted for economy as Preium economy and business class seem very expensive for the distance and the fact Air Austral is only a 3 star airline.
2 Questions. Have anyone been able to upgrade at check in for less than the extra $2000 quoted on the web ?
Any favourite seat in economy ? Seat Guru does not list this airline.

Any comments on things to do on the island in 10 days. Have the Lonely Planet book.
