Hi Everyone,

I've been doing a bit of googleing before some flights we have in March with Air Asia X but haven't been able to find too much.
Seatguru has nothing on Air Asia and the most information I could find was on this very site.

Our flights are
MEL-KUL 4/3 D7 2725
KUL-STN 5/3 D7 2008
STN-KUL 22/3 D7 2009
KUL-MEL 25/3 D7 2724

We are just after any information/tips people can provide on these flights/seating etc.
I'm 190cm tall so like to keep blood going to my lanky legs, my mate is average height so he'll be right :D
There are hot seats available but we don't really want to add a lot to the cost of the flights by purchasing those for each leg. We are however booked seperately so are thinking about booking seats to get them together and get the most comfort possible.

Thanks

Welcome to AFF.

I recall seeing seat maps and pick your seat options when i was last on their website. You can also purchase meals and transport there as well. Quite functional.

Appreciate a trip report later.

cheers

I've had a look at the seat choice options on the manage my bookings sections but not sure on which would be the est way to go.

Seatguru is good for a quick look because it has individual info on each seat so without that info I was hoping someone had experience as to what seats are good and what arent.

Will be sure to let everyone know how the flights go when I get back.

It's a bit of a lottery with Air Asia X. As you can see from other posts some people have had good experiences, some not so good. Unfortunately their aircraft are from various sources - new and second hand.

Australia to KL will be A330's. I have flown PER-KUL in their "XL" seats and found them good.

KUL to STN will be A340's. If it's an ex-Air Canada aircraft with the old interior it should be fine.

Air Asia X have however said they are refurbishing their aircraft. Their "Premium" seats will be lie flat. I understand their "economy" will still be 3x3x3 but will no longer feature the fixed shell backs. At 190cm you won't like economy!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

15 or 35 A or K are my favourite - heaps of room because it's an emergency exit, and even better - not considered "extra leg room" because the slide juts out a bit (but still stacks of room). And if you've got a friend, then reserve C or G beside you, and you can leave junk on the middle seat (which is far smaller than a normal seat, hence why you can't select it).

If you don't want to pay for the hot seats then pick seats at the back. It won't give you extra leg room but since the computer auto allocates from the front, chances of empty seats are higher at the back.

Why the sad face?

Everything that's been said above is correct.

You can get really nice seats on D7 for a song.

you might want to consider extra legroom seats on the A330 services ex MEL to KUL. This is because instead of the standard 8 seats across, Air Asia gets in 9 (3+3+3) - making the seats quite narrow. This is not a problem on the A340 service to London which has the traditional 2+4+2 seating.

One solution, building on an earlier post is to take 15A or K (for free because of the slide) and then pay for the seat next to it. That way, if two of you are travelling, the person in 15A by the slide can 'share' some of their mate's legroom!

The slide also makes a brilliant footrest :) It's at a bit of an angle though, so handy if you have rubber shoes that don't slide off.

But, you need to make sure your flight hasn't been cancelled.

It does happen with D7....
