My second experience with Agoda bookings.
First time, when I joined, they issued me 500 after the first stay, it was for a single nights stay at a hotel.
Went to AKL few weeks ago, was very sceptical as to whether the points would appear, or even if the booking I made, I had put in my VF FF number.
Turns out, the points were added to my VF FF account.
O, and to the person who mentioned on here, that for SC earn between VA and (Air) NZ, its the same, yes, turns out to be the same earn rate for J/C.

+1 to this.

I went to Melbourne over Easter with a booking through Agoda, i wasn't confident i would be able to double dip with the Agoda rewards + Velocity but Velocity posted and the Agoda points are still pending.

Also used points to get $25 off my stay so all in all pretty happy with the partnership ;)

How do you get Agoda points? I nearly always book through them and get Velocity points but have only ever earned Agoda points on one stay - and have no idea how I did that. Have I been missing out on something?

On my Thai trip last year i didnt get rewards so i emailed Agoda, they told me to get the rewards you have to be logged in to Agoda when making the booking, if you have a recent stay they manually credited me the points as a gesture of good will ;)

If you use the Velocity link to Agoda you will be prompted to enter you VFF number in the booking process..

If you just go direct to Agoda.com ( create an account ) and book you will not have the option to enter your VFF but will earn Agoda points..

Just have to look at which is more important / beneficial to you.

I've found booking with Agoda through the VA link terrible.

I just did a check on hotels for Norway in July - through the link you only get 3 available hotels for the dates I put in, if you go through the normal agoda site - you get a range of 24.
Previously when i booked hotels for NZ, booking through the link proved to be more expensive then just going through the normal agoda website.

Terrible..

They don't seem to award velocity points anymore in any case, at least not for me. Not worth bothering with. Until recently I only booked through Velocity/Agoda. I am stopping. As you say: terrible.

You can get both if you use the velocity link. In order to get Agoda points you must log into Agoda before booking though.

VFF points received recently in a booking.

It is worth checking the prices though, as the link can cause the price to increase from their non VFF link.

Heads up - make sure the Agoda booking is in the exact name as on your Velocity account, otherwise the points won't get credited (and you won't get any notifications about it)

I managed to get VFF to retro claim my last booking but they had to temporarily rename my account to do it (I go by my middle name generally).

Personally I wished it worked more like the eStore with acknowledgements after booking as there is no way of telling if the points are coming, or how long it will take.

I have never had a problem with the points posting using the velocity link.. It has been 5 to 7 days after check out.. Obviously to ensure you actually stay

I've never seen the prices vary between the normal and the VFF Agoda site, but I have regularly seen hotels disappear from or have zero availability on the VFF site, despite rooms being available on the normal site. I assume it's related to which hotels pay enough commission to Agoda for it to be worth their while offering the velocity points?

Just got points from a night back in April. Seem to recall I had to do a retro claim to get it. Still waiting for 7-8 nights since then.

I routinely use the agoda link to book hotels now and try to do so exclusively. The plat. 100% bonus plus cc points make this a very beneficial points earner.
Just a question however - if a hotel is not available via the velocity link but it is available through the ordinary agoda site, is there anyway of still claiming velocity points, even retrospectively? I have a trip to the states in the new year and two hotels I have found for different stays are on the normal agoda site but not the 'velocity agoda' and would like to get the velocity points for them, but is looking unlikely...

Not likely.
That said though, I am not game to try.
That said, I have noticed the same, and also, Novotel Canberra asking for $345 with Agoda booking, and $268 with Accor booking.
So, thats how Agoda is making money.
Most likely its cheaper outside of Agoda, so thats why the hotel is not available within Agoda, but it is outside.

I'm still finding it can take anywhere from 7 days to eight weeks for points from these bookings to appear in my account. Usually at the two week mark I put in a retro claim just in case. Just hit Gold so I'm effectively getting 8.75 points per dollar, as such I generally prefer to book through Agoda where possible. Just annoying that the points take so long to turn up.

I've been having some fun with Agoda lately - mostly chasing up website errors (partner booking page dropping out of the browser and denying points claims later). However, I can advise that their Customer Service line have been quite good to deal with and have fixed things where they could. A standard compo offer is 5% discount/rebate to be applied to any upcoming booking. I had that applied to three week stay in the UK so got a decent credit back against my ccard. There are definitely properties that are unavailable within the partner booking site but pop up if you go direct to Agoda, but ultimately I try to use the partner booking portal where I can and the points accumulations are definitely worth it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've had previous Agoda bookings have the Velocity points posted quite quickly but those were for Australian based hotels. Recently had an overseas booking (my first one through Agoda) and points still hadn't posted after 2 weeks, so I put in a retro claim. Still waiting after a week...
