We're booked to fly ICN to ZRH connecting through LHR in December with BA as part of a multi sector CX/BA ticket. Our agent (Expedia) has emailed me to advise that BA has cancelled the ICN-LHR flight "for operational reasons" (4 months out!) and was offering us the same flights on the previous day. This is unacceptable to us due to it truncating our time in Seoul and affecting a hotel booking.
We don't need to travel to LHR - it was only a transit point - so I've done a search and found Finnair flights ICN-HEL-ZRH departing on the original date and around the same time. Given they are a BA codeshare and OneWorld partner, should I push to have us re-booked on these flights or am I wasting my time?

Welcome any thoughts or experiences.

I assume it's BA ticket stock (ticket number starting with 125). Ask for an involuntary reroute via Tokyo or Hong Kong then BA to LHR. I normally don't have a problem getting approval from BA for that. It's unlikely they'll let you reroute onto AY for the long haul.

It is a pain when things like this happen! You'll need to keep it as a BA operated flight ex-Asia (as it is most likely a BA ticket) but you can reroute via any other Asian gateway to connect with a BA flight. It can work in your favour as you have a wide choice of options now, whereas before you might have been limited by price and availability. Hope it goes smoothly for you.

Thanks for your response
Yes it is a 125..... ticket. Am I correct in thinking that as it's the ICN-LRH flight sector that has been cancelled (the LHR-ZRH flight still appears in our itinerary) BA will only be interested in finding another way for us to get to LHR - which we don't really need to do?

That is a reasonable assumption. The airline is only obligated to carry you per the contract and on their own services. Absolutely worthwhile asking if they will skip the LHR leg, but they don't have to.

If your final destination is ZRH I would have thought they'd be able to reroute you there rather than forcing you to go through a specific transit point. Worth asking about in any event.
