ADL to JFK on ward to BOS via QF or QR option

Hello, background to the question. Family trip planned early Apr 17 current bookings partner and daughter (9) booked J via my QFF points, my flight also J but paid for to get DSC (recent QF Promo). My status P1, partner P. Current flights ADL-SYD, SYD-JFK (via LAX) JFK-BOS, 30+ hours starting 6am local, single day travel

I will remain with current QF booking for DSC, also likely to upgrade to F. We do not mind if we need to travel seperatly.

Question. I am considering changing partner and daughter to QR in J using QFF out of ADL to JFK on evening flight the day before I would leave with QF. Although 2x 14 hr flights there is only 1 layover and I think the aircraft may be better, a350 and 777er. The QF and QR flights will (should) arrive at JFK within 60-90 minutes of each other. I was thinking this may be a better option for them to reduce jet lag (flying west) and less layovers. What is the lounge access like in Doha and how easy it to clear customs at JFK, partner has not been to NY befor.

The down side that I can see is that delays in either service may disrupt JFK-BOS plans, for either option we have 4 hrs layover in JFK.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Everything else being equal, I would fly QR J over QF J and day of the week. It's like comparing F to J to be honest. Unless the F lounge in SYD makes the difference being WP. Even then, the QR J lounge in DOH is something special IMHO.

Sadly, I agree with Daver6 (except I think the QF330 J class is better, but you'll not have that option).
