So, I'm a smoker.. and well, once I check-in for my int. flight, I'd like to know if/where I can smoke before i get on board!

The website to the ADL airport is completely pathetic...

Adelaide Airport Limited

And, I did write a e-mail asking if there were any designated smoking areas..

In the reply, I was told, there are designated areas.. which are out the front of the Airport.. which are clearly signed..

Err.. yes. I know this. Thank you ADL Airport, but you didn't quite give me the information I was actually searching for!

So.. does anybody here have any idea if once I walk through the front doors, that will be my last smoke until getting to my stopover destination?

AFAIK Brisbane and Darwin are the only airports that have an airside smoking balcony, never seen one in Adl and Sydneys was closed down.

Ahhhhh, how depressing!

Do you think they'd let me on the plane with Snuff in my carry-on?

Hahaha..

(ground/snortable tobacco for those who don't know..)

Would you actually want to look like a hillbilly from the 50's?

Haha, to be honest, I don't think it would bother me as much as it would seem to bother you!

The thought of seeing someone chewing tobacco actually makes me feel a little sick.

As a non smoker, smoking is bad enough but chewing vile black stuff does not seem normal.

YMMV

One thing you can carry on (and use) is Swedish Snus. I don't smoke anymore but I am one of the weird people who actually likes the taste of tobacco so these days I use Snus. You suck it (as distinct from chewing) and its very clean and give the taste/hit that you want, although you need to build yourself up on it, as it is a lot slower release than smoking so most smokers changing over have a little trouble.....

Ahh.. I never said chewing tobacco..

It's called "snuff"..

"A preparation of finely pulverized tobacco that can be drawn up into the nostrils by inhaling."

I wouldn't want to be chewing any tobacco either..

Snuff on the other hand, it's interesting.. and hell, sure keeps my cravings away..

Um... Snuff and Chewing Tobacco are quite different things....

Snuff is sniffed up into the nostrils in small quantities.. it is extremely finely powdered......

...and while I hold no brief for "CHAW", I must say there are many other things folks put in their mouth that might well be described as "vile black stuff"...

To many of my American friends Vegemite would probably fit right in there!

Hmm, sounds quite interesting, thank you!

Just don't see myself being "calm" on a long haul flight without any assistance!

I wouldn't end up with a brown coloured mouth?

haha..

I stand corrected.

I still think snorting a substance may attract attention;)

I am with Sam, patches could be a solution.

What’s wrong with a patch, or one of those electric cigarettes? Or even some gum :p

Haha, to be honest, the thought never even crossed my mind!

I suppose I could use a patch, but I think I'd be much more happier sniffing tobacco than using an electric cig.. haha, but that's just me I guess!

I just like the snuff I have and occasionally use.. and I don't know, it just hits the spot..

The great thing about it is that you can just pop it in your mouth (between lip and gum), and nobody around you would even know. I sit at various workstations of companies I contract to, and nobody would even know I was "smoking" at my desk. Like anything you put in your mouth (including gum) you get a little staining but nothing drinking a bit of scotch and soda doesn't rid of ;). Also with the "portion" snus it comes in like a little teabag thing, so your not scooping it out of your mouth at the end, just picking it out and disposing of it like you would gum.

interestingly enough I was introduced to it at a degustation evening (invited by a swedish friend) where each course was matched with an after course snus (you can get a variety of infused or flavoured ones, as well as high quality tobacco). Was a very interesting experience!

Oh yeah, that's awesome. So you can have it in your carry'on no problems at all?
I like the idea it is all contained in one bag type portion.
I suppose this isn't something I can purchase in Australia? More of an online(guess that's unlikely?)/be in Sweden kinda deal to get?

That sounds like an amazing night! Talk about an experience alright.

Firstly i totally feel for your situation. i have a mate who is a smoker and it is a complete pain when ever we go for drinks.

I'd also comment about patches, it ath my mate tried patches to give up and ended up smoking just as much and also using patches.

But i'm mystified by your attitude about adelaide airport. You asked where the designated smoking areas are - and they told you. The only smokers areas are out the front of the airport. The international section is a little area that can be isolated from the rest of the terminal as needed and it is inside the building. I'm not exactly sure how it works as I've only been in it when domestically so then it is open for domestic use.

Anyway, sounds like a couple of great suggestions for something to help here.

I'd also think you'd have no problem with snuff.

Yeah, if only I didn't enjoy smoking so much, it wouldn't be such a problem!

I think I will give the patches a go.. and if I'm still struggling.. there is light at the end of the tunnel.. eventually! haha..
not a fan of Adelaide.. or its airport.. and I can judge.. I've lived/have lived there/here.. hah.

And when I questioned them,. I did ask specifically about when I would be in the Int. Terminal.. and they just responded with telling me about the front of the airport.. which is fine, if they had addressed what I had actually asked them also.

I think I will take the snuff too.. all they can do is confiscate it?

Yep, and i live here now, so i also have many complaints. But then i'm a queenslander so, people can also go to town on me.

I did mean to add to my earlier post that the response was pretty hopeless even if they did tell you the basic facts.

I can't see any reason for the snuff to be taken. But they might try to charge you duty.

To be fair, they answered the question:

"Designated areas out the front of the terminal."

You don't need to go through Intl check-in right away - I've always stayed in the domestic lounge until about 15 mins before the boarding call.

I have a friend who smokes and she was quite happy to stay domestic side to smoke and walk through Intl a few minutes prior to the boarding call.

Sure it's a pain that you can't smoke inside Intl, but we all need to adapt to the situation in front of us - it just depends how well we think outside the box to do it.;)

I am not sure what else they could say to make the picture any better :!:
