When I go through and make a booking on the aa webiste for domestic flights in America, I don't get any options to add baggage. Does this happen after I have paid for the tickets (haven't got that far!) or when you check in online. Also, there seems to be only 3 categories Choice, Flexible and Instant Upgrade which I take to mean discount economy, economy and bus/first - is that correct? Does AA give the option of selecting you seat after you have paid ? Do they charge you for this option?
Thanks for the help

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

On the page that displays all your flight options, click once on any of the fare types (eg. Choice, Flexible) and it will bring up the fare comparisons. The Choice fare seems to include no bags with the next category giving one bag. Adding additional baggage would, I think be done at the airport when you travel (and possibly online, although you could probably call up and do it, too). Note, though, status with oneworld provides baggage privilleges (on AA; it's not a oneworld benefit per se).

The vast majority of AA's domestic flights operate with a two class configuration, Coach and First. Business, domestically, is very rare. Are you trying to determine your QFF points earning rates?

I'm not sure on selecting seats but I believe you'll be given the option after purchase. Some seats are not available to those without high status.

New benefits for top tier frequent flyers
As part of its strategy of positioning itself as the first choice airline alliance for frequent international travelers, oneworld is marking the addition of Malaysia Airlines by adding tomorrow two key new benefits for top tier frequent flyer cardholders in any oneworld member airline frequent flyer programme.

From midnight tonight, frequent flyer cardholders with oneworld Emerald status will be entitled to:
- An extra checked baggage allowance, above the standard limit for the cabin class in which they are traveling - either one additional item where the piece concept applies, or an extra 20 kg (44 lbs) where the weight concept applies - when they fly on any oneworld member airline.
- Use fast track lanes through security when flying from select key airports worldwide on select oneworld member airlines.
- For further details of these new frequent flyer benefits, see separate news release.

Of course. I'd forgotten about that.

AA takes it much further. Including all three oneworld tiers in their baggage privilleges which, from memory, is a complimentary checked bag.

Hi - thanks for replies.
I'm not really trying to work out how many miles - my main concern is the final price and where I am seated on the plane. I like that they fly 767's on the Lax-NYC leg and would like to sit as far forward in coach as possible. I am travelling with my 2 kids and we are all nervous flyers and like to sit forward. We are all silver Qantas members.

Again, thanks for your replies

If I had to guess I'd say that at least the two cheapest Economy fare classes would not offer you any better seat selection and maybe not even the third fare type. But there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to pay whatever amount it is (probably on their website somewhere) to seat close to the front.

Sorry I can't be more help.
