My son is trying to redeem two award tickets with his AA miles on the Syd - Dallas route for us. The AA angels are saying that he cannot book an award seat in premium economy as they only have three classes of award - coach, business and first. But as everyone here knows there are no first class seats on QF 7 and QF 8. Is it possible to have an AA award in Y+ or not. If so, what is the procedure for securing those seats. Thank you for your help.

No is the short answer.

You can not book QF Y+ with an AAward.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

SYD-DFW (or CNS-SYD-DFW) in J is 62500 AA miles each way per passenger, or 37500 in Y and he can book it via the AA USA website.

The OP wants Y +

The only way would be to:

- book a J AAward
- take a voluntary downgrade
- hope the AAgent actually will place you in Z class (you will need to specify it).

You can not book QF Y + via the AA website.

You may be interested to know that it is the same points no matter where in Aust or NZ you start from and you can go to an additional destination in the US. For instance if you wanted to have a few days in NY as well it would only cost $2.50 extra in taxes.

AA do not have premium economy so they do not offer that as an award. So on QF7&8 you can only redeem Y or J awards.

Thank you everyone for your help in clearing that matter up for us. Y it is for us then!. The taxes are much cheaper than with QF though.

Yes :)

One of the many attractions of AAwards.

You can book Y online at AA.com and avoid the booking surcharge :)

Taxes are exactly the same. What is different is the airline imposed surcharges/fees

Given the miles needed for AA bus award fly business if available.

The taxes on 2xY awards is $US59.80 and 2xJ awards $US76.60.75000 miles V 125000 miles.Though for J awards on AA it is usually routed via QF16 LAX-BNE.

Had a little giggle as when you put in DFW-SYD it comes up with DFW-LAX-BNE-SYD with a warning that the requested class isnt available on all sectors. Now with QF that would be LAX-BNE would be in Y but with AA it is because DFW-LAX is in F.
