Thought this might be a maintenance shuffle.

I wonder if they'll sell F on these sectors, sell the F seats as J or just leave the F seats alone?

Equipment changes with the same flight number....that's going to get messy...

F seats are being sold on these QF107/108 services.

I think this could be done relatively painlessly.. It was only a few years ago that the equipment changed from 747 to a A330 for this flight.

QF25 (MEL-LAX) used to be operated by a 737 MEL-AKL and then an A330 AKL-LAX (which then went onto JFK as QF107)

They are the busiest days, so while some may call it an upgrade to a 380 they will be chokka.

Matt
PS, a 380 is a downgrade to cram in more people.

So you're saying that this decision by QF makes commercial sense?:cool:

It would still count as a direct flight as the flight number remains the same.

Thanks! I'm an imbecile...I've actually flown that route many times when it was still operated by a 747 on the SYD-LAX and a A330 on the LAX-JFK segment, but I used to stop over in LAX for a day or two, so it gave me 45 + 25 SCs instead of 60 SCs.

Looks like QF will be upgauging QF107 SYD-LAX to an A380 on Fridays and Sundays in January. This will operate alongside the daily QF11 service (ordinarily, A380s only operate QF107 when QF11 has been cancelled).

Ah, that would explain the change notice I received for my QF108 flight on Sun 5 Jan. I've registered for an upgrade when the whole journey was on a B747 (yeah, I know, good luck at that time of year!) and so I assume the upgrade request remains now that it's a B747/A380 journey - but if there is a change of equipment, will the request apply to both sectors - does the J or PE seat need to be available on both? Do they split the request if it is available on one sector and not the other? Questions, questions... :?:

This has been done purely to add capacity for a busy period as demand is very high.. Got to love school holidays... the other night there was 128 staff listed for the 12 with over 200 going for flights.
