I wonder if they'll get a discount on fuel for the return, seeing as they used up more than they needed to? Or a reimbursement from state/federal governments.

If they were formally tasked by AMSC they can put in a claim, however a lot of airlines do it gratis, with the expectation that should ever the favor need to be returned, cost won't be an issue in mobilising all help needed.

That makes sense, so there is something they get out of it, beyond helping someone.
